Classic Auto Air Conditioning

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Shawn F., May 7, 2009.

  1. I am looking at getting this kit for my 66 F100: http://www.classicautoair.com/FPickup6566.asp
I like Vintage Air the best out of a lot of other units I have installed, helped installed or seen since a lot of kits out there are plastic JUNK. I have never used Classic Auto Air kits though and wanted to get some oppinions on them before I fork out a handful of cash for one...
Any info, suggestions, oppinions and especially pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't used the truck kit, but I did just install one in a 56 Ford convert. The kit isn't the quality of a Vintage one, but it was tailored to fit the Ford pretty well. It integrated the controls into the factory heater control unit, and the hoses were made to fit nicely, the engine brackets, firewall block off (though I decided to make one out of steel and weld it in) and wiring all fit well into the car. Instructions were pretty good, too.
    But it's mostly plastic stuff!

  3. Installed several in the tri 5's and had very good luck with them. Most of the top of the line componets that look to have been made by the same suppliers. Classic uses spal blowers and looks as if Vintage does also. IMHO

I installed the "Classic Air" in a 55 Ford a few months ago. The quality and fit was about the same as "Vintage Air" The Y block bracket kit from them was a perfect fit and top notch quality. Blower motors and vents from both companies are pretty cheap and flimsy in my opinion.

  5. Thanks for the information I will give them a call and see what I can do about upgrading the vents and controls to billet or such. I installed a Southern Rods (here in NC) A/C kit in a 40 Ford before and it was JUNK. When the coolant ran through the box, the plastic piece of junk sagged and eventually starting cracking as soon as it was installed. It wasn't even a kit, it looked like they went to a shelf with a box, grabbed the first thing they saw and threw it in.
Vintage Air seems to be the best out there and even some of their stuff is cheap thin plastic but better than most kits.
Anyone have any pictures of their Classic Air kits installed? Also I see they have things as far as upgrading vents, hoses, knobs, brackets, etc. Anything you guys suggest that I should upgrade? I hear that one of the lines runs behind the carb on my 66 with their kit and was told to get the hose a foot longer or so to run it down the passenger inner fender to the condenser near the heater hoses so that is one thing I know I will change with the kit.
    Thanks again!

  7. Wow... That REALLY didn't help me much. Thanks for the bump to the top though.
