Classic car insurance question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Nov 11, 2011.

  1. Never really heard this 4 car deal before. I've been with Hagerty for quite a few years now. I only insure 2 cars at a time thru them, the others are projects which are covered under my shop ins., and the rate is reasonable. Have never had any problems with them.

I work for ANPAC and I would highly recommend at least taking a look at the CHROME Specialty Insurance product. I am not endorsing it because I just work there it is a great product.

I don,t know about ACSC I am covered by them, have been for many years, and they told me they would cover my original 39 Buick. It was covered before and the agent told me no problem, but then they changed their mind, and no explanation? I havnt had any claims for about 15 years outside of a parking lot fender bender.

I have been with Grundy for four years now. Two years go I added one more car, and our premium actually went down (per car). There was some delay while they went direct but if you were credit worthy, with a good driving record, there was no problem.

    I m very satisfied.

  6. I fully recommend Hagerty`s.

My rate is very very fair.

I think Hagerty`s customer service is unbeatable.

Below is a quote from the Grundy Worldwide website:
"As of October 20, 2011, Philadelphia Insurance (PHLY) has assumed administrative responsibilities of policies previously issued under the name "Grundy Worldwide" in all states except Massachusetts and South Carolina.

In 48 states, PHLY has imposed a "non-compete" on Grundy Insurance at the current time, which prohibits us from writing new Collector-Car-Only policies. We hope that in the future, the non-compete is reversed, rescinded or expired. Until that time, we can insure collector vehicles, but only in conjunction with other policies."

This is a link to the NEW COMPANY some of the former Grundy guys have started:
    http://classicunderwriters.com/

And a quote from the new site:
"Consisting of former Grundy employees who are driven by a passion to provide superior insurance coverage and service to car collectors, Classic Underwriters is an administrator for policies underwritten by United States Liability Insurance (USLI) and offers brokers the best resource for Agreed Value collector car insurance"
As I understand it they presently DO NOT cover all 50 states.
They are the people that ran the Grundy we used to know as one of top AGREED VALUE insurance carriers associated with this hobby."
I thought HAMBers might like to know....
I hope the link works; I've had some that worked when I tried the m but seem to "spoil" as the day goes on.

You are correct on the above definitions.

HAGERTY Ins. has now reared its ugly head in Ontario Canada. Where we have had a healthy competitive collector car coverage from Insurance companies for years at reasonable prices. All required an appraisal from a qualified recognized appraiser to establish AGREED VALUE.

Hagerty purchased Silver Wheels Collector Insurance, who in turn purchased one of the other competition companies collector car cliental policies and when their policy expires they turn them into a Hagerty client. Included in this transaction is the fact that an appraisal is no longer required. The owner then advises Hagerty what he thinks the value of his car is???

Yes, I am an appraiser and I am concerned, over the years after doing hundreds of appraisals I must say that not everyone agrees with the AGREED VALUE submitted, a lot of owners think the car is worth more.

What would happen if the owner over evaluates his car and there is a claim for a collision or fire etc. The insurance estimater determines the real value of the car which is considerably lower. Has the owner of the car committed FRAUD, or is it an out them not to pay the claim.

If the insurance company accepts the appraisal for agreed value there is no question that is the amount you will receive.

I must also state that most insurance companies allow the appraisal to last up to a 5 year term, unless the owner has made costly upgrades and upon completion another appraisal is required.

Shop around, ask questions and read the FINE print. Larry

  11. I have only used JC Taylor and Hagerty. I never had a problem with JC Taylor but I was without the need for Classic Insurance for a while and Hagerty was the best overall deal for me this time around. I've had great luck with Hagerty, I currently have my 2 cars insured with them.

Brian, Tony actually sold the whole business kit and everything. He remains as a part-time figure head only. If you need a couple of other options, feel free to let me know and I will give them to you. Larry
