The gas was old in the wife's 55 and we were having some run-ability problems, I thought were gas related. So I dropped the tank, it turns out it is not that bad and has been coated. I am pretty sure it is red-kote. It really just has a few particles. just wondering if some had a suggestion on a product cheaper than gas and will not break down the coating. By the way I found the loss of power problem under the carb, pictures to follow.
Product cheaper than gas for what? For cleaning? If it's just a few particles just put an extra filter before the fuel pump to catch them. If the coating has failed and the particles are coming from under the coating then it gets more involved. If it's redkote its not to difficult to strip it and recoat. But if you just need to clean it soap and water is pretty cheap but then you will have to let it air dry.
Red kote worked good on my old FarmAll tractors gas tank. I am going to use it on the 56 buick wagons tank as soon as the holidays are over .I am tired of changing the see thru gas filters which I have 2 on the old girl. Bruce.
