    Hello gents,
Getting ready to get my frame and ***orted parts painted. For the rear end housing what's the best way to clean the inside after the nasty sand blast treatment? I'm guessing standing it on end and rinsing the media out? Chemical dip? Just blow it out? Bye the way It's a dis***embled 8 inch. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

first off, i woulda taped/blocked off where i didnt want sand, or done it before i tore it down...

i'd say soap and water to get it cleaned out, then chase that with some wd40 or oiled rags to counter the water on the inside...

Ughhhh. :( Maybe it's just me but I don't think I would blast the inside of an axle housing. There may be places where you'll never know if you got all the media cleaned out. I'd wash the inside out with solvent and then mask it and blast the exterior surfaces only.

Curious to hear what the consensus is on this.

i buy degreeser at the super store, a gallon is like $7, mix it 4 to 1 with water, then hit the dollor giant for some scrub brushes, scrub hose, scrub hose, not going to be easy.

Thanks guys, better put my brush fire out. Have not blasted it yet. Just want to clean the inside well before ***embly. I'll do what Fiddy mentioned and tape off the holes. Anything in there will old grime and at worst some risidual grit. Sorry!

even after taping everything off and plugging holes, it will all need to be blown out. sand gets everywhere! blow it out with the same air used to blast it with. i wrap a rag around the end of one of my old hockey sticks and run it in and out of the axle tubes. blow it out and flip it then do it again. repeat

Make some rubber or wooden plugs, and drive them into the axle tube ends, and make you a stiff aluminum cover, ( or steel), and utilize the studs that hold the chunk in, to secure it, with a thick cardboard gasket, and blast away!..................THEN, clean the outside good, BEFORE removing any of your protective plugs, and then give the inside a good, thorough scrub and rinse afterward.......................Thats my take on it.

I was paranoid about getting media trapped inside my axle housing so I fabricated "plates" from a hard plastic semi truck mudflap to seal up my bare Mopar 8 3/4" housing, it came back without a trace of media inside. After cleaning and degreasing the inside and outside of the housing I covered the openings with duct tape, put down a nice bead of RTV and bolted the covers on using the factory hardware. Cleanup was a breeze...

P.S. don't forget to seal the axle vent
