I forgot if it was this group, or another old car group I visit, but a while back, somebody was talking about some kind of clear stuff that you put on the car, it somehow re-moisturized (feeds) the paint, like furniture polish...you brushed it on, let it soak in, then waxed the car as usual....anybody know the stuff I'm describing? It's not Poppy's Patina, I seem to remember it was made by an actual paint company, and came in one of those gallon metal jugs, like paint thinner does....I can use some, the paint on my '48 Dodge is getting a little chalky looking, and it's getting thin in some spots, since it's still the original finish.......thanks!
I remember Meguire's using that technique to bring back some old paint. They used #7, and let it soak in, I think a few times. Then wax.
The farmers around here used to get their faded paint and weathered tractors ready for auction by spraying kerosene on them. It was a problem when they did trucks like that. The windshield wipers never worked well after that!
Yeah that was an old used car lot trick. Wipe the car down with a rag soaked in kerosene, then wax it. Lasted about a month... well past the used car warranty of off the lot.
Yup like @chopolds said it was Meguires mirror glaze number 7. There was a thread here on it a while back.
