Clear or tinted glass?

I need new gl*** in my '55 GMC. It has clear now although it's kinda rough. Now is the time to decide on replacing with clear or going with the light green tint. Only air in this truck are windows down. thanks for the input.

I just had all the side gl*** for my '51 plymouth cut in "coke bottle green". I cant wait to get it painted and install it.
For you trucks colors, I think I would stay w/ the clear.

Not sure about your vintage but I replaced all the gl*** in my 41 int'l with tinted..The new type safety door gl*** is 2mm thicker so I could not get my inner cat wiskers to fit.. Rear window seal fit very tight,,not well seated but I can squeeze a little sealer in there. I think your truck looks great,,tinted gl*** might have to grow on you. Your windshield seems more defined in clear JMHO

 

Green, clear looks funny.

 

I would have some color of tint not to dark.

Another vote for clear.

 

I know, not traditional-but, what about a lite gray tint?

Christmas trees are green and they go will with red.

When the truck was new if tinted gl*** was an option it would have been an option with every color on the companies pallet, including red.

I am with todster I like it with the tint gl*** as well.

I didnt like the green so I changed to clear and like it much better myself. Nice truck by the way!

The factory tint on my '55 Chevy is so faint, I would not know it is there except for the "e-z eye" etched in the corner. The stock windshield does not have the horrid fade to black.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

If someone reproduces gl*** to the factory tint standard of the time, I would look at it. Nowhere close to Coke bottle or anything that drastic.

I like smoke grey myself. All the gl*** including windshield is that in my cpe

 

Thats a real good looking truck. I think the clear looks good on it.

The green doesn't look bad either... When did that green tint start becoming available on cars?

For what it's worth,Solex introduced tinted window gl*** in 1952, so tradition doesn't really come into it. It was generally thought of as a good idea as window area increased in cars as it provided improved UV protection to prevent upholstery from fading and padded dashes cracking. Some more for what it's worth, my panel truck is a candy red not too dissimilar from yours and the light green tints on my gl*** looks fine. It's a custom, and I kind of figured that a 50s Kustom builder would be using the latest tricks.

I'd go with a light gray that isn't any / much darker in value than the OEM green color. Just like the lenses in military aviator sun gl***es, gray doesn't change the colors you see outside when you look thru it, it only cuts down on the sun's brightness in daylight and a light gray won't be too dark at night. Gary

PS The windshield in my 27 is still tinted OEM green. Only the sides and back are light gray.

 

There's an outfit in Oregon that does the OEM looking light green in replacement gl***. I'll look for the info. My trucks are hot rods and I put in dark tint. For something as nice as yours the green would look great.

 

A light green tint is easy on the eyes, and period propper. My mom bought a 54 Ford new with tinted gl***.

 

The light smoke is what I had in mind looks good.
