People are always asking about the suede look...why not use some flattened clear over your primer? I assume someone has a good reason not to, but it can't hurt to ask.
My "suede" on th bike came from using flat clear over gloss black base. One thing I didn't expect, though, is that when you clean or wipe off the bike, it "shines up" the clear.
You can do that. The problem is that primer can sometimes get kind of uneven looking and clearing over will just lock that uneveness in. If you put down an even coat of whatever color basecoat that you want first (even if it is the same color as your primer), the finish will be more even looking. Chris
Bad idea. Primer was not designed to be cleared over-it can be very porous as well as fade in the sun un-evenly. That is why there is basecoat. You can spray a flat clear over basecoat but the problem is you can't just wetsand a run out and then buff it out. You can get single-stage paint and add a flattening agent to it. Is the body that bad Tony that you don't want to let it shine, or do you just want the flat look.
The body is getting straightened out. It's more of a cost thing. 99% of the body shops up here won't touch anything but insurance work. The other 1% (rod shops) want 6-10k for paint jobs. I'd love to have shiney paint, but I just don't think I can afford it.
