Gibbs is an oil that will temporarily protect bare metal, not a clear coat.

It seems I read an article in either Street Rodder or a similar magazine about a "thin" ultra light coating that an inductive coating type place offered. It wasnt applied to a whole car, just a panel. It may be pricey and hard to find a shop to do it, but it appeared to work.......Ill try and dig out the article.

The Diamond Clear is one I have tried. I couldn't get it to spray well. I tried 7 different guns, and I finally had to use a touch up gun to finish. As I was painting in June with about 68-70% humidity could have been the problem. Not sure on that though, as I had been painting the day before, same conditions with HOK's clear and it was perfect.

first off this truck is a 67 chevy longbox and not a traditional rod. i just liked the look of the bare metal sanded up from the da. i figured it would look cool with some rainbow flake soaked on it! its kinda sounding like this wont be a good idea for me as i am a muffler man not a paint guy! anyone wanna trade some work? lol! o yeah i got the memo about all the kool kids... and it ended up in the round file!

W-D 40 and scotch-brite. you can use a clear coat but it wont keep rust out forever

ppg ...dau75 with dxr80 is clear for alum. if its polished you will need a adhesion promoter and i find alum needs to be warmed up before spraying.not sure about bare metal but dont see why not

If you like bare metal look, just sand and oil daily. If not that, paint it silver.
