I bought a project Falcon that needed completing. The PO had dumped a ton of dough into it and had the whole drivetrain redone in about 2001, the car painted, then sat until I bought it a few months ago. I have put it together now and just fired it a couple days ago. It has a Clifford header, alum v/c, Offy tri power with 3 weber 34s, and I believe a Clifford cam and 1.6 rockers based on some paperwork I found in a bag of receipts with the car. It is pretty lumpy and I was wondering if they put in the 264 cam or if they went more aggressive which isn't recommended as it is an auto. It has some kind of higher stall converter in it. This is going to be for my wifes summer DD, it might be a bit much. I peeked in the plug hole with a light and could see flat tops, compression is 175 psi, not sure if they shaved the head or put a 170 head on? My main question is I was just doing a little research and found some info on the Clifford cams that says that some of the recent ones don't have micropolished cam bearing journals, so they eat up the bearings pretty quick. I have already run this engine a little. I'm wondering how a guy knows when the cam bearings are gone. On another site some guy said that the Jack Clifford guy died and his son in law has the business now and QC isn't the same. I'm wondering if my 2001 era cam would have this non polished issue, if I should worry about it or what. Anyone have any experience with Clifford?
You might more readily find an answer over at www.fordsix.com. You will find lots of fellow Ford six guys and Falcon guys over there that know way too much about these engines and cars.
