hey guys once more I am here in search of knowledge but more than anything HELP:confused:well I am building a '29 RPU using a 365 Cadillac engine but with a '62 hydromatic trans. I’m running an edelbrock 600 and figured I could just buy a cable kick down kit for the trans but the more I read into it I cant find any cable kits for this application not to mention that that year of trans was very delicate when it came to the TV rod and adjustment. If anyone has tackled this issue or can shine some light as to any other option to run this set up, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Without getting into mechanical specifics, you need to figure the total travel of the TV rod then back it off just a bit, maybe 1/8". This is where you want to be at WFO. Half throttle should end up at 1/2 travel. From there, if it shifts too fast add a little extra "pull" on the rod, a little less if it stays in lower gears too long. There's a lot of technical reasons why, I just wanted to keep it simple. The leverage angle/distance on the OE carb will help with length issues on a non-OE carb. I hope it helps.

I used a Lokar kit for a powerglide. Can't tell you how well it works yet, I haven't driven it.

Make your own TV rod. You'll need some 5/16 or 3/8 steel rod and a good sturdy tubing bender, or a good eye. Take a long brake line, bend it into the shape of the rod needed and have at it. You'll need a 90deg bend with a hole in it for a retaining clip or cotter pin at the trans, then you'll need to thread the other end and either adapt or fabricate a "sleeve" of sorts with a solid stud end, also capable of holding a retainer. You'll want 5/16 fine thread and 2 nuts to push or pull the rod which ever way it needs to go to fine tune the shifting personality. Damn it, kriminal, I can see it in my mind as clear as day. Wish I could type it the same.

Another speed bump is how the rod mounts to the carb.

It should be closed at idle and wide open at full throttle. Attaching the rod or cable approximately 1 1/4" below the throttle shaft should have you really close to the correct geometry.
