I have a couple of problems with the Y block clutch pedal in the Model A. 1. On two occasions, I've tried to shift from first to third (T-150 3 Speed Trans with OD- 1-3 are synchro'd) and heard a nasty sound like the clutch wasn't all the way in. The second time was last night so I started making a conscious effort to make sure the pedal was pressed all the way in. 2. At this point, the pedal (the type that comes up out of the floor PROBABLY Pete and Jakes, if I had to guess) went further down that it seemed like it should have which made it kind of feel strange after that driving it. What kind of adjustment should I make? I obviously need to have someone press the pedal to see what happens but it seems like there's some kind of a pedal stop that needs to be addressed as well as maybe making the clutch pedal be out further when the disc starts to grip. Does that sound right?
Huh? First you think it wasn’t going far enough down, but then think it went too far down? Isn’t the floor basically the pedal stop?
The way that it chattered going into third felt like the clutch disc was not disengaging enough. The pedal itself, once I was pressing on it, to deliberately make sure it was all the way down, was going past where it has stopped for the past 3 years that I have owned the car. As if there was an adjustable “stopper” that moved. I Have never dealt with these pedals that go down through the floor so I was looking for tips.
The picture is a little dark. It looks like a home engineered linkage (not that there's anything wrong with that). Is there a inspection panel you can remove to see what the release bearing is doing while the pedal is cycled you need to determine if it moving from not touching the fingers to pushing them far enough to release thr clutch. I once had a clutch fork that wore right through the pivot Point and it wasn't easy to see from out side of the bell housing. Phil
Here's what's going on... The clutch fork is/was the pedal stop (the pedal arm goes down through the floor). When I was pressing on the pedal to make that "conscious effort" to make sure that the clutch was fully disengaging to shift, the pedal arm went past the end of the clutch fork and allowed more movement of the pedal. I could post a photo to show, but I'm being lazy about emailing and downloading the photo... At any rate, I adjusted the clutch play and now it grips "higher" so that should mean that the disc will disengage and engage with less press of the pedal. It looks like my pedal threads on but I'm not having luck getting it off. I was going to drill and tap for a bolt that I could use as a better pedal stop against the floor.
