1952-59 Ford clutch for a 239 Y-block

Ok so I Havn't been on in awhile,Havn't worked on my car for awhile either. My clutch is fried,I either need a new one or I need to have it re-lined,if I go new I need to find out which clutch I need before i take her all apart,I've been told its a 9 1/2 inch 10 spline,I've also been told its a 10 inch 10 spline,are either of these correct? I also cannot find a local shop that re-lines clutches,I'm from Oshkosh Wisconsin,does anybody know of a place that re-lines clutches for cheap? Or can I buy a clutch the same size as my clutch,drill out the rivets and re-rivet the material onto my clutch? Is that possible? thanks everyone

 

You're going to have to pull it anyway, might as well pull it now and see what you have. You may notice the flywheel needs resurfacing also. With the clutch and pressure plate in hand, a good trans shop should be able to set you up with rebuilts if availabe. Otherwise, rebuild them. There's got to be a competent shop somewhere around Oshkosh (?)

 

Tear it down , have the flywheel resurfaced and you can get the clutch parts easily . Macs , Carpenter and most any other good Ford supplier will have your parts . You will need to send the old ones back for a core charge .
While you have the trans out I would replace the gaskets on the trans too so you will not have any leaks down the road . Good time to change the old gear oil too . Also check the universals while the drive shaft is out .

I called every shop from restoration to race and I can't find any place than will rebuild the clutch (put friction material back on) I guess i'll just pull it

 

Try Napa for a rebuilt clutch.

Um ok so on Macs it says the clutch for the 239 is a 10 inch,but I crawled under my car and measured,it sure looks like 9 and 1/2 inch clutch,what is it really? The motor is out of a 1954 its a 239 thanks for the help

 

I have taken apart several over the years that had a larger clutch cover than disc. I have seen the disc as much as a half inch smaller than the cover. Take it apart, lay it out, and order replacement parts
