I was told that we may need to install a clutch safety switch to p*** tech at the HAMB drags this year. Anybody got any ideas of a simple but effective way of doing this? It would be nice to be able to byp*** the switch if you needed to push start the car. I was thinking of installing like a starter ****on that the clutch or linkage would open so the circuit is complete. Does this sound logical? Thanks, Robert
Mount a momentary push ****on switch like you'd use for a starter switch so that when the pedal is depressed it completes the circuit(to the solenoid). Power for the ignition should be totally seperate of the starter circuit anyhow so push starting is not effected.
Hey Robert , you'll get away with using a brake light switch mounted to your clutch pedal that interupts the power to the starter solenoid exiter wire , when the clutch pedal is depressed it connects only the starter.
We prefer a neutral safety (ours is a pair of micros on the shifter), will not allow starter to turn in any gear, clutch or no clutch. Ignition should always be seperate from starter as already mentioned.

Neutral Safety Switch All cars must be equiped with a functioning neutral safety switch that prevents the car from being started in a forward or reverse gear. The last rule book I saw was in 2004 and it only stated automatics had to have a neutral saftey switch. Hopefully Carl can clearify this. Hate to come up there and not be able to race. Tim
To the best of my knowledge, officially, a neutral safety switch is still required only for slush pumps, and sticks are recommended to have at least a clutch activated switch. That said, the techs out here really like to see the neutral switch anyway, and that's our own team's preference as well. I still need to get a '10 book.
I did not get this information off of their site. I was told when I tech'd last year that they would prefer that the stick cars had a clutch safety switch. I figured I would install one to be on the safe side before I pulled 1500 miles and had to rig one in the parking lot. I think I will install a push ****on type switch.
