Newbe from CA -- Hi all. I'm trying to get my late father's '61 Chevy 6 p.u. usable. It was working fine when it was left in the forest many years ago. I got it started, but it's locked in reverse. I thought I remembered him saying it had a hydraulic clutch. If that's true how can I get it to work -- or could it just be all rusted together?
FWjr, aka fng Need to do introduction............ I've experienced clutch disc sticking itself to flywheel after sitting for some time. You should be able to manually get out reverse, but with it in gear.........bumping the starter will unstick, if not dis***embly will be necessary. Good Luck
How did you start it if it's locked in reverse and the clutch won't disengage? If you can shift it without the engine running, put it in the highest gear, 3rd on a 3 speed or 4th on a 4 speed, jack it up to get the wheels off the ground, start it, rev it up to get the wheels spinning, push in the clutch and slam on the brakes.
If it's a hyd clutch, try filling the reservoir, and bleeding the system. If that doesn't work, ....go for new master and slave cyls... 4TTRUK
