Was wondering what CAD/CAM software packages you're using? I've used SolidWorks a lot and recently CAMWorks for the CNC toolpath work.
Nice porting work! Good quality product, been around for years. I know quite a few folks who are using SolidWorks and CAM packages like CAMWorks these days - due to all the****ociativity between the 3D CAD Modeling and the machining operations/toolpaths. I recently did some very complex 14-71 supercharger designs using it - was impressed with how we were able to make billet rotors and hold a .002 or so tolerance over 19 inches of swept rotor profile. The way we setup the HAAS, the tooling we used and the fixturing had a lot to do with it (like any complex CNC operation). Here is a picture of a rotor in the HAAS:
Yes, these are hard anodized and then the grooves for the Teflon sealing strips are done afterwards. These things turn up to 15,000 RPM, so tolerances, timing/indexing and the overall design has to be exact.
Hey Guys - I didn't mean to hijack the OPs post - so I'm going to stop posting on it here. The work that Mummert does stands on its own - and I appreciate his posts, products and the vast knowledge he brings to the table. If anybody wants to contact me, just DM me via a convo. Thanks Mummert!
Yeah - we are all here to share and learn . . . so not too bad that we get a little side-tracked at times!
I think that we all appreciate quality. Years ago when I played with blowers I wished that some of the rotors looked that nice, instead of looking like they were in a tumbler with gravel as the medium.
