This car deserves it's own thread! According to the piece, the car was done in four months in 1941 and cost $6000. Using the CPI calculator, that would be $109,200 today. Enjoy https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2018/...e-of-prewar-design/?refer=news#comments-block
Beautiful coachwork, and the restoration looks to be very good quality, but the engine has a lot of stuff on it that isn't even close to period for 1941.
In this link are some early photos of the car. https://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11...om_cars/coachcraft_customs/41_mercury_custom/
It not about taste If this car is as advertised, an early “custom” then look at some of its styling that was continued by other builders after WW2. There is a lot to like here beyond an odd shaped top.
i can appreciate the work that went into it both originally and the restoration, and I really want to like it, and if I put my hand in front of the screen and hide the top, its a beauty! but the "scoop" top in that form just looks out of place doesn't flow for me. one of the pictures from the link Bleach posted, with it in candy red, the top looks a little better, but no top or full top/removable hard top would look a lot better to me.
