Cody and Bodi in "The Butterknife of Patriotism Tour"

  1. It's an Oregon thing. Unless you have a commercial station gas card, I'm yet to find any places where they let you pump your own fuel. Pretty much it's just ammunition for jokes.

NJ is like that too. You're not allowed to pump your own gas. State law or something. One time I got some punk who had his nose right up next to the fill tube so he could huff the fumes. He was so stoned by the time he was done, I got the wrong change...in my favor. Go figure.

  3. Looks like a great time!
I've been on some of those roads on my
    motorcycle. Amazing scenery.
And yeah, it seems to take the better part of a day
to get through Salt lake City
    Travel safe

Awe, their already down to less than a sundress! One of these days you'll hjave to earn that AZ/WA designation and stay down a summer! Wait 'till ya hear from me in mid August... That's about the time I have my same little breakdown every year and walk out of the shop giving the finger to all the great open outdoor spaces!

  5. Well, it's about time to wrap this one up and put a bow on it. So settle in boys and girls. You ready to see some different **** on my dash? YAYYYYY!!!!

We spent the night in Pendleton Oregon. I didn't take any pictures because Cody let me back "The Freedom Wagon" in to two different walls on the hotel property, and I didn't feel the need for any photographic evidence. So instead we hit the road early. We had the Monroe swap meet the next morning, and still had to pick up Cody's Commie Wagon in Bellingham.

Welcome to Washington. Look Mom, I can pump my own gas!

  7. State Route 20 is the northern most p*** in Washington State, and it is a climb. This was probably the hardest we pushed the truck the entire trip.

So, here's the final stats. Not bad for yarding a trailer around, and being so loaded down. Most impressive was the fact that I got better mileage on the way back home than I did on the way down. I averaged roughly 17mpg despite a few windy days. I attribute that to the fact that I had to slow down a bit.

End results were a truckload of stuff successfully hauled home to immediately rust, a rear differential that no longer leaks gear oil, and an exhaust in need of repair. Oh yeah, and it's raining. Plus, a good portion of this nation got a nice coating of liberty, and many people recognized just how awesome we were as they hauled *** past us in the fast lane.

You didn't tell me that you finished this deal in the snow! You went from 100 to white stuff in one trip! 'Merica!

Oh, and I see the cashe of giant zip ties that came with the fabulous trailer got a work out too!

  10. Super 'Merica. We saw a wide spectrum of the color wheel. So, how's September down there?

  11. Yeah, you remember how that hood kept popping open a bit? It was a little bit worse on the highway when a tractor trailer went by. I didn't want to chance it with that hood.

Bodi, great pics, great do***entation! Nothing like a road trip in a cl***ic piece of americana. Reminds me of a cross country trip I took a few years back in my non-hamb 68 deville convertible.....hit a lot of the same areas you did, nothing like the sight of a sunset in the great American southwest. Also had exhaust issues.....had a hanger break and the crusty old pipe split due to the excess stress....had to do a roadside fix with a soda (not sprite) can and hose clamps about 60 miles outside of Vegas in 105 heat. Cl***ic!

Now you know what its like driving a truck like mine everyday now. Holding up traffic is a daily routine for me, sometimes I find it funny to roll up to a red light where the jack*** has been sitting for the last 2 minutes.

Ah September... Still hotter'n hell! If you get back here then you'll get a tiny taste of why so many of us from down here are just not quite right... Certainly I'm the poster child!

Ya know, I HAVE to drive the wagon somewhere... It needs to go somewhere where I can buy those goofy little state outlines for one of the quarter windows.

Dammed man is that the highest p*** you have in that state? Living in denver at 5280. Highest jeep road I have been on was at 13600.
Great trip and pictures. Thanks for sharing.

  19. The ****erknife was just a joke we came up with while driving. I guess the truck would be the ****erknife, as it was the tool we used to spread all of that liberty. The stupid **** I come up with during thirty some hours of listening to a transmission whir.:D

  20. I'm not sure if that is the highest p***, but, I know it is the most Northern. You can fairly leisurely drive from that p*** to the ocean in a day. Washington is unique that way. I'm a "hill person" that lives out in the the mountainous woods and my home sits at 220 ft elevation. Kind of funny.

Yep, my shop is checking in at 112... You have the right idea Bodi. Wish I was at the Brown Lantern up in Annacordes drinkin' a dead guy 'bout now.

    Great trip and do***entation.
And a HEY, to the phx crowd.

  24. 112 degrees? I bet The Copper Star is the place to be. I'll readily admit that The Favela wasn't well equipped for those kind of shenanigans. It's supposed to be 80 here all weekend, and I guess I can live with that.

Glad everyone enjoyed the photos. Now I just have to get back to work on the truck.

Ya, but the Favela possessed a certain kind of low rent charm all it's own! For instance, even though it was in the heart of the flatlands in the city, I could easily visualize it slowly tumbling down a mountain like it's namesake after a heavy rain...

  30. A big sorry for being so slow getting back to everyone. The laptop has been down, and I don't dare try to surf this joint on much else. I get easily frustrated.

Thanks, I'd take credit, but really, it is the camera. It's a Canon SX40. It's the model right before you get in to the DSLRs. I highly recommend it. I'm more of a "spray and pray" photographer, and this does that brilliantly.

That was my maiden test voyage. That is pretty much how fast she'll go. I like to "stress test" things while still close to the shop.
