Well I’m excited to announce I’m going to be building the first version of the lil coffin . As a eastcoaster an a fan of traditional heavy channeled cars I’ve always love the first version of the lil Coffin . I always wanted to build this version of the car because it looks the best to me before it got all showrodded . Also no one else has built a cone of this version So it makes me want to build it even more . I’m not big on fallowing rules or guidelines when I build my cars . But for this Im going to do my best to make this version come back to life an be the closest I can get to this photo an point in time . Like all my projects they take time . But stay tuned ……………….

Past excellence made its own rules...it's natural in my eyes to want to replicate it...that's a neat Hotrod that's had an evolution as many did...like today, it wasn't all positive...

It's like Kookie in a way what you're doing but in this case the base is an image...recreate rather than undo...

    Hambtastic...thanks @Cody Walls

    Do it To it.
I was knocked over to find a very similar rendition, on a back street in a sleepy lil town called Ambler Pa. ( 1961-62 )
The effect of deep channel, with full size glass, was mezmerizing.
Paint was somewhere 'tween deep purple or maroon
    I could not leave.
    Go Codyy.... Go Codyy....

  14. I have a feeling Dave Stuckey would approve.

  15. YES! So cool to see someone clone the earlier version, knowing your build skills/talent car is going to be epic and on point!

.... you finished yet?? :D impatiently waiting!;)

That was always my favorite version of that car.
In 1973 when I was at the Street rod nationals in Tulsa with my 48 I parked across from what I still think was a later verison of it on Sunday out at the race track that we rode out to on Sunday for the last few hours of the event. No whoopti do, just sitting out in the cheap seats with a gold 48 Chevy pickup from Texas collecting dust.

  17. 'Lil Coffin was always a favorite of mine. 1st version is the best, no doubt.

A true clone, or a “kinda” clone? Like, looks the same if you squint, or looks the same when you are a foot away?

I know Jack - who’s hamb name escapes me, don’t think he’s been on a decade, has told me stories of pushing it around by hand when it was being built. I bet @travisfromkansas would be able to put you in touch with a few guys that have first hand memories of the car. Might be of some help?

  27. I've always liked chopped and channeled fendered early cars. But sedans for some reason just ooze way more 'cool' than roadsters or coupes for me. And I like all versions of the Lil' Coffin, but this version is far more practical for actual driving. Carry on!

I believe Cody will leave us ooooing and awwwing...he said to a photo finish...and I think his eyes pretty sharp...+-1 or 2" would be loose but tight...but yes he is in control of the tolerances...and may be much tighter...
