Will be watching Cody. A great undertaking for sure but well worth it. Brings back memories of my childhood and building models of the little coffin. You should fab up a life size skeleton as well.

Personally I don't mind it in that config but I think the version Cody's building works as well...I don't find a conflict with the Modern against the old as that thing was pretty modded body wise by then...These rides are an intensely personal thing...Its actually a Hybrid Really a mix of both...again just my opinion...​

 

From Dave's article in response to Starbird's 1992 R&C story:
"The car had several different engines during its first years. In Car Craft November 1960 the car is featured with its original grille and a 1954 DeSoto engine. The car was bored 3 13/16, equipped with larger valves, Isky camshaft, J. E. Pistons, Grant rings, reworked heads with 11 1/2: 1 compression ratio, Crower Manifold, four Stromberg 97's, Mercury clutch and 1939 Ford transmission and rear end."
Would make the engine a 276.

Being over 6 foot tall, I have never understood my love for channeled cars...
Let alone chopped And channeled...But that's never stopped me from building and driving them.
Guess it's just a sickness...

Cody Outstanding project always loved the Cofin and heck I have the Aurora 32 SKID DOO in my model collection. I have a few 37 tube axles if your looking for one.

Dave had been working on this version for several years before his passing in 2017. His daughter now has it for sale. Here is an earlier picture of it in progress.

 

I'm on board with this build. Going to be exciting to see Cody's progress.

Well hell! I'm on the edge of my seat with this one! I wonder if I can build a model of it as you build the real one? It would be a challenge to my skills for sure. It would be more of a "Squint" model of it most likely.

I noticed the kit Moriarty posted is 1/32 scale. I would build 1/25.

 

Yes an from what I read black was left out an something else was added. An it was over yellow . Or a translucent yellow was overtop . ? ??
From the car craft cover it looks a little orangish red , and from other photos it looks red red . Hard to tell exactly what it was with things being changed so much an colors from photographs being skewed

"I painted the car with Titian red, a 1956 Buick color. Steve Parks, a local pinstriper, had his mother, who worked for Wheeler Benigus, a Dupont auto paint store, mix the paint. I had her leave out the black and add 246-0887-H in it's place. I shot the color over a yellow tint mixing lacquer."

In 56, Duco 246-0887-H was Medium Maroon.
