OK, I think I finally have my steering issues solved.. On to the brakes...

I need a power setup to drive Dodge 4 wheel disks with very limited "underhood" real estate. Ideas so far are: 1) Custom right angled set up where the pedal pushes a rod then a bellcrank of sorts. MC and booster are mounted sideways. 2) Purchased under floor setup.

    What have you guys done?

Mine is inside the cab behind the dash. It has a remote resivor on the outside of the fire wall. All mine came from the 2003 GMC w4500 I used for the ch***is. You need a lot of room behind the dash though. I made my firewall from scratch to fit the setup.

I see from your pics that you turned the entire booster and MC around and push towards the rear with the pedal. That's cool, was it oriented that way in the donor? Not sure if I have that much real estate under the dash...

:DI used a complete brake booster and master with linkage and pedal from a Dodge van ('80's). Almost a bolt in except I had to trim the inner shroud (that touched the booster) of the grill shell. Looking at it one would never know that it was trimmed. The whole thing was on the other side of the firewall.

It was already inverted in the GMC when I started.

Thanks for the GMC, motorhome brake set up pic. Was that whole right angle deal part of the motorhome or did you need to fab that? It really fits in there nice.

    What year was the motorhome?

    thanks

  8. The one I used was from 1984. The hydro boost is attractive as it is compact and supplies good brake boost. I had to modify the mount to work in my application.

Did the hydro boost have a belt driven pump? Seperate from the power steering or the same unit?

    thanks,

  10. Both use the same power steering pump.

Hey Buggy, could you take a measurement from the firewall to the closest point near your knee for your GMC brake setup. Also, some idea of how far up under the dash or not the thing is would be handy. This is a vacuum booster, right?

    thanks,

    Rick

I will try to get some measurements for you. It is a vacuum booster. Probably wont be until later this week. The truck is not at my house.

Rick, I was looking at your pics and I see you have a tilt cab. Being that my set up is off a tilt cab originally....it might be a good choice for you if you can make it fit.....if you get all the lines it has rubber lines just outside the firewall for the tilt.

Buggy, I found your setup in a GMC commercial cabover box truck. It really came back too far towards my knees to work, but I definitely appreciate the input. In the meantime, I have located a 90 degree underhood unit in a cube van. (It was a storage unit at a local junkyard). Pulled it all today and will put the corvette booster and MC in place of the cube van's hydroboost system.

    Stay tuned...

Glad you found something... I had a rough weekend and did not get a chance to look at it for you.
