At the risk of getting flamed heres my 51 ford coe chop, started it about 4 years ago but was never happy with the screen bit so I left it under a sheet, fast forward to today uncovered it and it went right!, had to unchop the screen 1/2" more than I had but it feels right now.
I've loved the look of a good F-1 chop and you NAILED it. The A-pillar (screen?) rake is perfect. And doing it to a COE is even better. I've been working on one myself. Just a little smaller
If you had shown me that before I would have known what It I was trying to build! think you got there first,,,,,,,,
I've been working on and off on my chopped COE for a few years. You'll probably finish yours before I do.
A bit more metal work done on the cab and spliced the narrower rear end into the chassis to go with the rear fenders and bed that I`ve got planed
I assume the "screen" is the windshield, sorry I'm just a farm boy. Our screens keep the flies out. looks good anyway.
It looks nice but for me personally I think the bonneville style chop is a bit odd on a COE. I like it better with a more even chop like the model. I'm curious to see how the rest of the truck turns out though. Where did you find the COE? Was it always in England?
It's different ill give it that.. I wanna see it on the frame with fenders, then I'll give my opinion on it.... I think I am gonna like it... keep us posted..
It came to the uk just before I got it, the cab had been crudely mounted on a late ford chassis with angle iron, I`ve now made subframes for the cab and chassis so it bolts on, started on the A pillars inside which meant decideing on the dash, never liked the stock one so I mocked this up, not sure yet
Wow thats gonna be badass. Love the chop and the tricked out dashboard. Youve got good vision and skills
The chop looks good, the dash, not so much. It's gonna be hard to see out with the gauges up top. Maybe "float" them in the area you have in pic #13.
looks like they are sitting there to show their size and shape that also fits the transition of the dash face plate.
One man's opinion, but I agree with boldventure... Put the gauges IN the dash and not on top. It's going to be hard enough to see out of the windscreen, er... windshield. Honestly I never really cared much for COE's because they pretty rarely look "right", but yours really should be cool! (I love the scale model one also!!!) Keep the photos coming!!!
Nice you working on your COE Truck agane. Love the chop The dash is A bit square i think with all the round edge of the cab. Have fun Building. Diedelson
Recommend you either box the entire area or add "fish plating" to the inside of the frame where you narrowed it and spliced. Vertical welds on frame webs are a "No-No" in the truck body business. In a typical frame joint (where it has been cut to either shorten or lengthen) the vertical weld is covered with an elongated diamond shaped piece that can be welded with (mostly) horizontal welds.
