What would you guys recommend using for heat insulation on the engine side of my engine cover. I have no cover at all right now, so I can build accordingly. Thanks, Bert
If there is an aircraft surplus store in yer area.. Airplanes use a LEAD wrap, one side is lead and other is a pull off paper, revealing a sticky surface, found it at Boeing Surplus store in Wash. state, now closed, It was 1/4 - 3/8 inch thick and you could stick it to a hot exhaust manifold and not feel heat. I don't know where to get it now tho.
Go to Aircraft Spruce website. They are in Corona CA and sell exhaust wrap and heat shield materials that are so good that some of the experimental planes have exhaust 1" from very thin composite cowlings and perfect paint jobs that last with no problems. Not cheap but you dont need much..... I use to paint these aircraft and the shields work!
I got some stuff from my local upholstery guy.....it's a heavy felt type material with an aluminum foil applied to one side. Glued it down, it seems to work pretty well. Kills the noise too. We had a good thread here called "heat insulation" or similar.......maybe scroll back a bit to find it.
