Curious as to what type of insurance everyone with finished trucks are running? And how you use or plan to use your truck?
Right now I just have normal liability only on mine. The collector types(Haggerty, etc) won't insure it since I use it to tow and haul....

I talked to my insurance co and they told me that all tow and deck trucks pay big premiums due to the value of the vehicles being moved. It doesn't take much to do thousands of damage. My friend has a deck truck that he uses for his own stuff and it's parked because his insurance company wants 6k a year to insure it. He use to pay under 600.

would a company write a policy for the truck that excludes what's being carried?

Greg, that is interesting since they are not being used commercially. Glad I didn't build a car hauler now.....
Commercial insurance is another deal altogether.
I only use mine to tow my car trailer or haul my own junk on the bed.
I just wanted to be able to drive/use it with no restrictions.

  5. Most insurance agencies can't get the "private use of a commercial vehicle" thing through their heads. This gets especially tough when you get into the cl*** 6 to cl*** 8 trucks. Finding a good agent will help!
I use American Family and a photo of the vehicle and the VIN (serial number) get me insurance (Companies can't comprehend a 7 digit VIN)
I only carry the minimum (Liability and uninsured motorist) insurance here in Wisconsin just to keep things simple. I avoid the valuation nightmare because my stuff isn't that valuable.
When the Autocar is finished, I also will be asking questions .as the value will be higher and I will be towing a travel trailer.

I have insurance through Hagerty for both my coe and roadster and both are with a declared value. Each vehicle is down for amount of miles I plan to drive (coe 5,000, rdstr 1,000) if I plan to exceed those numbers call and change it, no restrictions for driving use. Your rate is based on mileage and whatever coverage you sign up for. Stating a declared value adds the $, and it can be quite a process, for the coe it included an appraisal by a certified appraiser, many photos and a couple of telephone interviews. For the roadster it was a number they could believe, also with pictures and a chat. Admittedly I never plan on putting anything on the bed deck except a blanket to walk on, nor tow a vehicle or trailer, other than my early 60's Sears luggage trailer. I have had Hagerty for 10+ years and found them easy to talk to, they seem to get it. No I'm not an agent or a schill, just my contribution.
