That is really cool! I've never seen a car hauler done like that one before. Look at how the back of the cab flows into the ramp bed. It would be neet to build one like that and pull a RV trailer with it.

  2. OK, folks... got back into the bushes & took some additional pics (OK, so 66 more). If this is like a lot of other php based boards, I can probably only get 10 pics in per post.

  4. The neighbor to the R had the easiest access but she's not really all that excited about losing more than the one tree in front of this rig; the one that is grown up between the leaf shackle & the frame is an obvious loss... but the biggest issue about getting it out is that the person who owns it is a... uh... collector of many things & apparently not one to let them go.

It's a decently treed lot & I don't see many options for going out the way it came in.

  5. I suppose like all auto rebuild projects, the question is (how complete the rig is) + (how accessible any replacement pieces are) / (difficulty in making your own pieces) x (wild *** guess on time to do whatever it is to do) + (# of friends you can enlist to help out ) = who the hell knows...

And that is about it for now... I am thinking that with the exception of flipping the cab back I have gotten pretty much all the highlights, right?

Thanks for the pictures! Looks like a cool find. Flat gl*** is easy to replace, so that's one good thing. Interesting that there are small block Chevy exhaust manifolds laying back there. Also, I expected to see a six, but is that a big four?

The tree that is growing between the leaf spring and frame rail is one generally hated by most Texans, based on the bark. Seems like the land owner wouldn't care about losing that one.

  11. True on that, RamJet. Where I live we're covered in Cedars.

It's possible (probable) the manifold & other stuff are from another vehicle because it's looking quite complete WRT the drivetrain & other primary parts.

Notice also that this White is a size or two smaller than a 'big rig' & this is what has me thinking about using this for something more like a 'regular' truck. Maybe put a slightly modified flatbed on the back end; I can easily build something out of wood & put in some stake pockets. I don't know that I'd use or need the rear trailer attachment, however I don't know that it would be important to remove it either.

My mind continues to spin with ideas; there is plenty of potential here, that's for sure.

  12. & WRT the engine type / size, I haven't even talked to the owner of the rig, so I haven't attempted to tilt the cab to see exactly what's going on in there.

It would make a neat truck to just bomb around in. So many possibilities, I hope you are able to land it.

  14. RamJet, considering I'm a roofing contractor this would be a perfect rig to use for work as well. & I envision driving up to a new customer's house & having an instant conversation starter.

I have yet to figure out what the logos on the door say. & I wonder if by the DOT #'s on there that someone can figure out who used to own this? Based on the license plat it appears that '53 is the last year it was in service.

If it is a 4 cyl, I'd ***ume it's for sure a diesel? Thinking about functionality, I am unsure about repairs to such an old, rusted heap of iron or a replacement... maybe an Isuzu? Would have to compare measurements for all areas & see if maybe a ***mins would fit in there; maybe marry that to an Allison? Again, the mind simply wanders...

    Thanks for the replies.

My 51 Chevy COE was delivered today. Uploaded a pic. Hope it works. Engine turns Thats all i know. I plan on doing a restoration. I was wondering the best approach. Taking it apart is easy. Its remembering how it goes back together.
    Will post more pics soon.

Take photos of everything you do, and write it all down so you know what goes where and what the photo is showing you.

Good advice. And digital cameras make all this very easy to do today. Good luck with the restoration. Looks like a nice clean COE to start with !

Even consider a camera phone and store the photos on the computer with notes about how the parts come off and go back.

^All of these are the best route^

You can never have too many photos or too many notes.

So tonight I picked up an 85 Econoline 350 ch***is that I am thinking of putting under my 56 Mercury COE, but I want to hear from people that have used the 74-93 E350 ch***is.

This one was free and it helped out a friend removing it from his apartment parking lot.

It has a worn out 351W, but I want to run a 460 or the Lincoln 368 the truck came with as it's a good runner as is.

    Thanks,
    A few ??
Will a small block v8 fit where the 6cyl resides? Im also trying to decide to keep it stock or do a rest mod. I also want to keep the same rear axle but make it faster on the highway. Can the gears be swapped out?
