The 56 I`m building will have a 9' box with 22.5 lopro tires. There is a picture of one on the coe page that I`m copying, Its red with yellow flames on the front. I plan on using a clark 5spd OD and the 2 spd rear axle. I`m wondering how the truck will ride with that short of a wheelbase?

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering too. What motor are you running? I've got the 1978 chevy 454. I think I'll gain some power shortening it up and losing the 2000 lb bed that was on it.

    I have a 91" wheelbase - using '73 1/2 ton suspension - rides nice and handles well.

How hard was it to fit the GM clip to your frame? I was considering the same thing for my 56 Mercury COE rather than a frame swap.

I`m working on a 390 ford motor or I may put in a 7.3 turbo diesel(non powerstroke). The 390 is a bolt in with parts from a 391 truck motor. The diesel will take some floor cutting ,but not as much if I used a****mins. It keeps the******* in the stock location with either V8. I`m looking for low to mid range power for towing. The 5/2spd combo should work nicely.

LN7, Its too bad your so far away, I have a 87 superduty F450 chassie, complete with power steering & power brakes that would work under the 56 cab. I was going to put it under my cab, but opted to keep my original chassie and up grade the driveline.

The 1/2 ton fit real well - I would expect 1 ton no harder. See post #47 in my MR SHORTY redux thread - linked in my sig - for frame pics...

I appreciate that, but I'm wondering about using it on a 56 Ford COE chassis.

Cool build, glad to see you got your truck back! (I'm subscribed) :D

It was already clipped when I got it.. But looking at it, it doesn't look that difficult.

Can you tell if the frame is pinched where the suspension is attached? My frame is wider than the GM one.

The frame of the 56 was cut just behind the wheel well opening. Then the chevy frame with all the suspension and steering was welded to the existing frame. Then he cut the front off the chevy front end that was welded on, and replaced it with the front of the 56 frame to keep the original frame horns intact. I hope this makes sense.

  18. 5w, you mention trades but don't list an amount for outright purchase.

I'd say that on your linked thread, but I cannot post there for some reason.

There is a '52 Ford C600 available in Columbia, Missouri. Here's a photo of a Diamond T project in Bozeman, MT.

I believe this bus also came from MT. It now resides in Columbia, MO.

Somebody told me they moved the lot, but many of the vehicles were still for sale.

Here's a photo from the 30's or 40's I found while doing research on old land speed record runs. It was used to haul Ab Jenkins' Mormon Meteor.
