    I think I watched this unit do a " burnout" in Washington At the G/Gs Vintage Drags,was very interesting :)))

    that might explain the "rubber undercoating" i found in the front fenders :))
    i did have to get new tires.

    the owner said he wanted to use it for a sign for his business. That idea is about 15 years old. didnt know what to offer.

    Leonard, glad to see you got the '42 home in one piece. Looks farm fresh and solid. It's pretty rare to find a '42 with any stainless or chrome trim due to the war.

    That's why I would have thought it was a '41 ??
    (it's a pretty much a certain thing here in Oz that dates Chevs)

    Congrats by the way :cool::cool:

  19. I think the mandate to stop the use of chromium and nickel came out in late February or early March 1942. By that time, it was already not in common use, but available.

    Here's a photo of my '55 Ford COE. It's on a 1986 Chevy 1-ton and has a 1999 Ford dually bed (that has been narrowed 8" to get front and rear fenders to line-up). Using a Ford 302 w/AOD trans. Paint is a red oxide sealer primer with a gray interior. Truck is currently "For Sale." I'm in Belton, KY.

    Thanks a lot for the info! :D

  24. Does your Isuzu have wierd bolt pattern/ sizes on the wheels. As I posted earlier, I bought one that had 5 lug 15.5s on the front and 6 lug 17.5s on the rear. This was from the factory as it was listed that way on the spec tag in the cab. Hope it works for you, the track width was too narrow for my Autocar.

    The guy I bought it from said they ordered the truck in 42' but due to the war they did not receive it until 44', It had been sitting in the shed since 70'.

    I wish I had time to build this truck but I have probably ten years of projects stashed and I hate hoarders so It's in the cl***ifieds if anyone needs a cool project.

  28. 1944 production certainly wouldn't have a chrome grille, grille change at some later date could explain it.

    I notice that they look like stamped steel covers on the grille bars, the rusty looking ones are just missing the covers. It seems like the polished ones on the pickup grilles are made out of stainless, and I have found several pickup grilles that were polished stainless under military green paint.
