COE COE Picture thread (imported from main board)

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Duration, Oct 30, 2007.

  1. I can only imagine what a scramble war production was in the early 40s. It would seem likely that there was a supply of stainless grilles (long before "just in time" manufacturing) and painting them OD green was quicker than scrapping them and stamping out steel ones. Putting shiny stainless grilles on war production trucks probably was considered counter productive. LOL

The 41 Ford COE grill bars are not stainless steel. They are steel bars with stainless trim pieces on top of them, held in place with hidden clips snapped into holes in the steel grill bars.

  3. Studebaker M series Conventionals) were also stainless wrapped around the original steel grille,
My Autocar, on the other hand came either painted steel or chromed.

Does anyone have a nice 41-47 Ford COE grill (waterfall style) that I can use to take a mold from? I'd be interested in reproducing them for sale. My COE grill is far too modified to use as a base. Thanks.

  5. Some older oddballs from out of my truck file.

I'll bet there is more than a few on HAMB that never knew that Ford, Chevy, and Dodge even made a big COE!

Hey Guys, This is a great thread. Here is my 1938 GMC. My truck is on stock frame rails. Up front it has an early 80's one ton Chevy van front suspension crossmember with Air Bags. Out back it has a mid 70's one ton dually Chevy rear end. For the engine &******* it has a late 70's 350 Chevy V-8, turbo 400******* and a Gear vendor overdrive.

Fellas, I need some honest opinions. Not the best pic but I came across a cool older guy this evening with this COE for sale. It's a 53 GMC, original chassis, later model rear (1985 5 1/2 ton), original front axle. The cab is rock solid and rust free.

It has a nice running 400 SBC and 4 speed, he says he runs 75 all day and gets about 14 mpg empty with the tall gears. Has AC but not working, and the original non-powered single pot MC. Other than those, everything seems in good working order.

He left Tucson, AZ a few days ago heading for SLC, UT. He's picking up an Anglia and a 50 Buick and heading back to Tucson, so he must have a lot of faith in this truck. Says he's had it 16 years and put 9000 miles on it's with this engine. Seems completely legit.

Here's the thing, the $14,000 asking price seems pretty fair to me for what it is. What do you think? I'm sorry I didn't take more pics, was too busy checking out the truck. Should get more in a few days when he comes back through.
