  2. I thing RMR&C is right with Ford cab. These trucks were shop built by the trucking companies that hauled cars. If you had a contract to haul Fords, you had better show up with a Ford truck to pull the load. Same with the other companies, even Studebakers got hauled by a Stude truck!

Convoy Co. of Portland, Oregon built their own car-hauling rigs using 1952 Ford F8 chassis.

Then they changed to this style still based on Ford F8 with the cab wider

Thanks for the Convoy details. I had always wondered about those weird looking trucks.

    Here's another weird one.

There is something just so, so wrong
with having a driver have to sleep in
a box underneath the cab floor and
right beside the engine too! No
wonder this set-up never caught on!

I had an old time trucker tell me that in the early days they also had a box under the trailer for the relief driver to sleep in.

  16. Doesn't do anything for me, and this is a COE thread! Also because it is referred to repeatedly as She (note the capitol S) am I supposed to believe that this truck is a female God?

That's a '54 GMC COE cab, on that '53 Chevrolet COE. Side hood emblems are from a '49-'52 COE, so who know's what year it really is.

    Thanks Koos!

Probably the whole front clip is from a Chevy COE 49-52.
Looking good, but i prefer the split windshield.

Actually, Late '47-'53 used the split window cab, & that same Chevrolet front clip. That is a good looking truck regardless.
