Dammmm Wlly, not only do you host an awesome website for all of us COE lovers, but your truck is awesome. Can't wait to see your pop top finished. Tell me, do you draw all of this out on paper first, or do you just go out to the shop and start building?

It's available here. I've had a few tool boxes on my fleet vehicles made out of that stuff (Made in China maybe?).

I've also seen small sheets at Home Depot, maybe 2' x 2'.

Damn, there must be $250,000 in that build so far! It was discussed probably two years ago. I put a lot of photos on this thread that I grabbed off of their builder's website.

7. When ever I see a situation like this, I wonder what the insurmountable problem is that forces the owner to bail on the project. Money? Can't get along with the builder? If it were mine, divorce might become the reason. LOL

Wolfcreek-steve- In Canada we call it checker plate. Comes in mild steel or polished aluminum.

9. Maybe I've been calling it the wrong thing. I have gotten some strange looks when asking about it!

10. Maybe im not seeing it right on my small phone screen, but ive always know it as diamond plate.

The guy I'm getting my COE from showed me a pic of this truck as he knew the guy years ago and they shared emails back and forth a while ago. Too bad it isn't getting finished right now.

12. Yeah, you probably can't see the difference on a small screen. This stuff has 5 ribs making up a square then next to that square is another square with 5 ribs running the other direction. The whole plate is made up of these alternating perpendicular patterns. It is much more slip resistant than regular diamond plate.

Here's one I saw at the All Truck Nationals in KC a month ago. Pretty nicely done.

16. Hi Guys
Go to Google and type in Checker plate and click on images, then stand back and watch.
Over here it is know as Tread plate 5 bar or Propeller plate 1 bar.

$35,000 is the minimum starting bid and it does not meet his reserve price. Has anybody heard what it will take to buy it?

Any guesses? I'll guess that he's looking for at least $60,000-$70,000 ...and he will still be taking it in the shorts at that price.

Here is the answer given in a question on ebay

"Good Morning Bob, The motor is a 1988 that came with the Topkick. It had 124,000 miles on the motor when we bought it. We took it to a Caterpillar dealer and had the motor completely rebuilt. The total cost to rebuild the motor was $23,000.00. Rebuild was completed with all new parts. 240 horsepower and around 900 to 1000 lbs of torq. Transmission came with the motor so it is a 1988 also. We had a mechanic look at the******* and was good to go. The tires and wheels are all brand new as well as the majority of the truck. My husband started this project a few years ago. He is not the one doing the work. We had a local fabrication shop doing it. We also had a restoration going at the same time on a 39 Plymouth at the same place. My husband had to take an early retirement and now we don't have the expendable income or desire to complete it. Kind of sad because my husband spent a lot of time and was the visionary into the whole design of this truck. To date, we have receipts totalling $293,000. What it would take to finish it? Our guess is between 50 to 75 thousand if you had to pay someone but that is just a guess. I hope that answered your questions and thanks for your inquiry. Take care and be blessed! Mary "

Thats a lot of money they have wrapped up in the truck.

That is a cool truck, but $293,000 in it? The majority of that must be labor I'm guessing. Besides the engine rebuild, initial cost of a Topkick, some cabs and maybe a burb body, and misc steel, the air ride seats etc, I'd think would be under 100k signifacntly.

21. You have to remember that this is a fab shop building this thing. $100/hr is probably the going rate. If they stuck 23 grand into a 3208 (dime a dozen throw away engine) paying a fab shop the going rate probably didn't matter either. Someway, I just can't feel sorry that the fantasy crashed! I just wonder how much the fab shop is going to be stuck for.

pertaining to the uPaY truck listed above,

English definition of “throw good money after bad”

<!-- End of DIV di-head-->› to waste money by spending more money on something you have already spent money on that is no good: Trying to fix that old car would just be throwing good money after bad.

SURE WISH I COULD!!!
somebody get Poteet on the horn, PRONTO!!!

1950 F5 anybody know anything about these, I was told that they ordered the cab and frame with the motor and the PO put a flat bed on it, I thought it was a milk truck that had been chopped down.

24. I think not that different than the modern van cab and chassis used on the van based box trucks.
