    Thank you sire.

Put the Jack down? That's crazy talk! :)
Thanks...yes the rear wheels are smaller than the fronts and that one is flat...at least I can see that a black wall tire on a black wheel dont look too shabby.
I try to work on it as much as I can.
    Thanks.

I took possession of the 55 LCF tow truck yesterday after its journey from Arizona,I'm impressed with its condition. I'll get the brakes working and throw in a runner small block for now. I'm thinking dressed up 409ci Chevy with some old style finned rocker covers down the line. It has a Holmes 525 boom (12,000lb rating!) on a Holmes 828 service body.
Here it is as it arrived on the trailer. Another fun project.

I pushed it along the road and up my drive with the plow truck.

Taken in downtown Austin, Texas! @ Austin Music Hall.

Was told it's a '57 & had been in use by physical plant @ UT.

Now a light & sound co. truck.

I like these C-series Fords, this one is a lot newer than 57 with the parts it has (like the oval Ford badge, the panels below the windshield and the wipers and dash controls) but they are basically all the same so it really doesn't matter.

I think they were just using the two older wreckers for advertising. I've spoken to Mark several times. He's pretty cool . He likes old trucks. This other one is a 1948 Chevy COE with a Holmes Heavy Duty model W35 wrecker unit. It's the next size up, from your model 525, which was considered a medium duty unit. I'm working on a W35 myself, to go on my '52 GMC COE.

Ok, I'm kinda confused. I distinctly remember overhauling a GMC V6 in an Air Force fuel tanker truck in the late '70s. It had a cabover similar to the pics posted by 23skidoo and Wolfcreek Steve. Am I missing something or are the '60s and '70s catching up to me? I don't remember Ford or Mack having this type of cab.

I've always wanted to see one of those Macks.

I think they did that style with the Ford body for just 58 59 or something.

  20. The Big Three all had tilt cabs, Ford was the most common because the freight companies liked them for city delivery. In the case of Ford and Mack, the Budd company built the cabs for Ford and some type of deal was made so Mack could buy them from Budd. Externally Ford and Mack versions are the same, but there are quite a few differences to the dash, floor and doghouse.

Here is a 2 story falcon, notice it is the same cab as the C model, with skirting added below the cab. Also GMC and Dodge tilt cabs

    Mack N COE
Mack N COE. Yes. This is a Mack. It might look like a Ford, but it is a Mack. Budd Corp sold the cabs to both companies in the 50's. Mack had different trim, and it's own chassis.

mad-cad, Here's what the Holmes crank handles you need to lower your booms look like. The smaller one came standard with the Medium Duty model 490, 515, & 525 wreckers. The larger ones came standard with the Heavy Duty model W35, & W45 wreckers. The larger ones are adjustable, & can be used with the smaller Medium Duty wreckers. 9e37f6c3-5880-4b6f-97e5-8403235c6585_zps30af6642.jpg

  30. Ok, since these are popping up, here is one I sold a couple years ago. That is a one man sleeper on the back of the cab and AC on the roof.
