Looks like American Force 19.5 Independence wheels have the correct triangle hole appearance ..like the 30's 40's chevy gmc 8 hole wheels.

  21. Looks like a 41-47 Dodge cab, v-dub front fenders and very little artistic ability.

Maybe he was a frustrated designer at Convoy Transport and decided try to replicate the concept similar to these using a 40s Dodge cab. Might even have a sleeper bunk in it too.

[IMG]In the ’50s and ’60s, Convoy Transport Co. ran many of these shop-built custom carriers. These units employed a conventional cab, but mounted high atop the engine house, liberating many feet of cargo space. Windows in what would be the cab’s firewall bring to mind the International Sightliner.

[IMG]Here’s a period clipping from a workbench magazine that goes into more detail on the Convoy mid-engine rigs. Drivers tagged the oddly-placed sleeper arrangement “the coffin,” an MCG reader and veteran trucker reports.

  26. A lot of these goofy looking prototypes were the auto haulers trying to work around very restrictive length laws, that were dictated to state and federal government agencies, by the railroads. In the early years of the 20th century, the railroads had free rein in the freight business, other than local cartage to and from the rail station, but by 1950 the trucks had improved to the point that they were viable for both short and medium hauls. The railroad conglomerate saw this as a major threat to their profits and declared wholesale war on the trucking companies abilities to do long haul. My dad was a long haul driver in the 40s-60s and told stories of a string of box cars parked across a marked truck route for days at a time. If you tried to find a way around, the cops would arrest you for not being on the truck route. They, of course, were in each others pockets.

I gotta agree. While a 4Bt or 6Bt****mins is a good engine, I''ll take a noisy, leaky, cantankerous 2 stroke Detroit any time.

  29. To keep it on topic I chose this one. Enjoy!
