  5. I thought the same about the wheels,***** ugly.. I have been looking for a nice set of wheels for my 8 on 6.5" dual-lies. They just don't make cool wheels for the older trucks. I guess I will be sticking with my steelies.
The passenger side mirror must be for looks? No way he can see it hanging from above that door, even if he did have binoculars for glasses. I see he took the mirror off in the other photos.

  7. I have checked Ron's Wheels in both 16" & 17" Duallys with 8 on 6.5" pattern, they have 3 in 16s & 4 in 17". All black, but modern designs similar to the ones we are commenting on. The only wheels I have found that I could maybe live with are the chrome crazy 8 wheels that were abundant every-were last year. But I don't think I ever saw them with the old 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern for Chevy. I want something with an oldschool look that looks right on a 1939 truck. These new modern designs look more like they belong in a parking-lot for show, not on the road for go. Especially 20" wheels with little tires so small you barley notice them. They belong on sports cars, not on hot rod COE's. But that's only my opinion...

As you guys know, I like blingy wheels... I think just removing the spikey things would help...

  10. This is what I am trying to use, 1939 Chevy center caps. With 4 lug bolts, it snapped right on, on the front. I think I can figure out a way to make them work. But the back wheels will take more thinking?

  11. I originally was going to run these on the front and Moon discs on the rears
IMG_2798.JPG When I decided to go with an Army look, I decided to just use stock dually wheels painted olive drab to match the rest of the truck. (Keeping it simple) Only wheel question have left is whether to run singles or duals on my pusher axle

  15. Assuming there are 5 gears, the engines are working together. I'm interested in how the rear axle it located.

Updated: Distinctive Bynum – Stevens Tow Truck Offers 23 1/2 Hour Service

    April 23, 2020

Unique tow and service trucks owned by garages and dealerships have long served as rolling billboards for the establishments that own them, although this particular rig rates near the all time top of the list of eye-catching tow trucks.

It served in this capacity for the Bynum-Stevens Motor Co., a Pontiac Dealer located in Murfreesboro, TN, in the 1930s and possibly later. While the bodywork on this truck could have been constructed by a professional body-building firm, the general lack of compound curves leaves one to believe that it could have been built by a clever craftsman, in the Company’s body shop.

Gene Herman, who found the image at Vintage Wreckers, believes the wheels are Ford. Further investigation reveals that the tip of the front fender and the front axle wishbone support visible underneath it also points to the possibility of it being based on a Ford truck chassis.

Please share with us what you find of interest in this image by Lively Photo.

Updates below: We have heard from two people that live in the Murfreesboro area with connections to this unusual machine.

James Patterson: “The wrecker was custom built at Bynum-Stephens Motor Company that was located at 407 West College Street. They used a 1935 Ford truck chassis and a 1926 Lincoln V-8 engine. It had a three drum hoisting machine with power take off. My Grandfather Fred G. Patterson was a mechanic there.”

Mary Lee: “This tow truck was hand-built by my grandfather J.C. Bynum and was said to be the only wrecker for hundreds of miles that could tow a semi-truck.”

  26. That was cool. I wish he could had shown us some of his completed trucks. I see he likes them low, with enough power to really drive them in traffic.
There sure are a-lot of Fords laying around. Lots of Chevy's from the 50s & late 40s, some Dodges to. But no 1939 or 1940 Chevy COE's. That makes me feel good. They must be inside all prettied up, too good to show us? LOL
    nice video
