Small world, my neighbour knows the Blastoline guys too, he was down there in his 30 Chev racer last year as he was recreating the great race route from 1906.

On another note, there is a group of rich people claiming they are the first to recreate that race right now, I think they just headed out... and they are not taking the same path the original race did, the path my buddy took, and using newer cars on the highway... sad.

    WOW!!
    I can't belive it!! :eek::eek::eek:
I did a drawing some years ago of a White truck (I loved the lines) but it was in the form of a car hauler with the tear drop shape. I even had it in front wheel drive too, to keep it low.
    That is one COOL! build.
    Thanks for sharing :D:D

Amazing stuff on his site and the related links. Love the Jay Leno piece on the Peterbuilt. Very cool.

Here are a few pics of my 51 Ford. I was going to make a car hauler out of it but that project has stalled. There are a lot of cool COEs in this thread and a lot of talented builders. Some of the craftsmanship on these vehicles is amazing.

As I look at these trucks from years past, I can't help but wonder about the guys who used to navigate these things on those narrow winding 2 lane roads back before the federal interstate system, with nothing more than an open window for fresh air from fumes and an AM radio that would only pick up WLS Chicago, or evangelicals in Del Rio Tx somewhere to help distract them from the engine and road noise for the 8 to 10 hours at a time they spent banging and bouncing along in them.

I contend, commercial drivers today share virtually nothing in common with their predecessors who drove these things.

    Your right about that!!
Strangely enough though (with the modern trucks we now have)
Most large truckin companies here in Oz can't get long haul drivers.
I heard today of one company that has trucks sitting in their yard
& looking for drivers ??????? go figure!!

I bought mine here on the Hamb out of Oklahoma...and I live in new York...what a road trip..
And about the looks it gets......it stops people in there tracks when their mowing their lawn and when I'm on the highway doing like 80 you should see the people break their necks to try to get a look as they go by in the other direction.....my girl and I laugh every time..
One thing to note ......they are not very aerodynamic....drafting helps tremendously....lol

Here's my 40 Dodge when I found it and now on an 1980 Chevy pu chassis with a 460 Ford behind the cab. Plans for a custom flatbed. Can hardly wait to drive it.[/ATTACH]

Anyone ever think about using a late model Isuzu tilt cab chassis under one of these?
Would make a great class 3 or 4 C&C that will get around 20mpg.

Yeah, my buddy has one. It's a maroon and champagne colored COE with a sleeper and a flatbed. It's back quite a few pages, but its on here.

Yeah, That engine is going in my Dad's 73 Mustang. Its a 520 CID (stroked 460) making 750hp on the motor. Getting off topic but the car is street legal and will run in the 9.70 range in the 1/4.

I have a suspicion you could choose from many different engines including CAT and Detroit power for the Ford C-series. Most I have seen have the big gas 534 type engine.

thanks for sharing your renderings johnny. i like this one as well. looking at the green one i'm thinking of making the skirting tip up by hinging it at the back so i can get to the engine and change a tire if needed. i like the idea of the one piece fender and skirt look. [IMG]

Love the rear fender treatment! If you get close to this with the finished product it will definately be killer.
