This is the build thread for the yellow 1941 GMC truck and trailer, My name is Rich Roberts. I bought this rtruck as an original unrestored box van ( like a Penske truck) pulled the body off and junked the rest. Mounted it on a G.M. shortend p-30 moterhome chassis mounted a 8.1 G.M eng. and alison 5 speed (mid eng.) Then fabricated everything from the doors back, rear fenders are 46 chev. car. Air bagged front and rear , also had to narrow the A arms and hubs. Then I found a ag trailer (goose neck with 3 axles , already licenced) on Craigs list , cut about 1000 LBS. off it and started to fabricate the trailer body , using lite weight tubing and lots of aluminum. I plan to bring it out for the first time to the summer Turlock swap meet , after that the Fall Turlock swap meet , then the Ca. hot rod reunion. if there are any other questions , I will be glad to answer them.

I hope no one has posted these before or for that matter I hope they are suitable to the topic. If not I am sure a Mod will delete the photos..

HOTFR8, are there any build pics on the gorgeous hauler? I'd like to see how they built the ramp section.

It looks like a standard wrecker roll-off bed on the inside, just painted and set down between all that gorgeous sheet metal.

It does, yes. The older COE trucks, are narrower than modern trucks, and so I****ume some modifying was done to the ramp, like cutting off the sides, and re-doing them? Or how are the sides braced so the flat sheetmetal doesn't go flopping in the breeze. Details like that, and such. Curiosity.

My 41 White framerails are the same width as a newer truck, just the cab is narrower.

yeah, I s'pose. Everything is about 34" and one could make the wheels fit under an older front clip.

I don't care too much for the stepped cab......but on the other hand, those cabs are sooooo tiny....

This is my truck. I am so glad the weather held out for us that day. Were you in Canmore on the Sunday as well?

I agree, the car scene is great here!

If you like shows every year the Reynolds Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin has a big show called "History Road" in June and your COE and Satellite would be very welcome there, it free and fun and you get all sorts of goodies and free admission to the museum.

Just picked the truck up from having the new windshield glass installed along with the new stainless trim at Saugus Glass. The stainless really makes the windshield stand out. Butchie also installed new window channels in the doors (no more rattling windows!). Off to Cheryl's Signs for some "vintage" door lettering next. Just about finished. :)
