I just posted this to the Facebook COE trucks page... https://www.facebook.com/groups/775541425830249/ Pretty sure none of you guys are in the Northeast. Road trip maybe?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thinking about a COE version of Hot Rod Power Tour this summer in the Northeast. Maybe an overnight or two. Museums, race tracks, everything would be fair game at this point. Obviously, we'd be MUCH smaller than HRPT as I can only think of a dozen or so trucks that I know of in New England. How cool would it be to see 10-20 or even more COEs driving down the road or into the Owl's Head Museum?
Here's what Google says about that! 21 hr 36 min (1,420 miles) I hope this is successful for you as I think it is a great idea!
Yup, a 2 day drive, you better get wrenching! I'm actually far more scared of being TOO Successful than not successful. Only a couple trucks show up, no problem. We go on our way fat, dumb and happy. 100 trucks show up, PROBLEM! I'll make it work either way. Still working on the day 3 venue. Both current ideas are race tracks, one small and one large. Both have different advantages...
I drove and mapped out the Friday and Saturday routes over the weekend. There's some very nice scenery including more than 1 Model AA! It's all 45 MPH or below with the exception of 1.5 miles of 55. I could not find an alternate that wasn't a dirt road.
My buddy at the speed shop talked to the owner of the local race track. He gave him an idea of what I was thinking and asked if he'd give me a call. No call in about a month. I'm sure the man is VERY busy. But my buddy said he didn't sound terribly enthused about the idea. We were proposing a parade lap of sorts for the COEs between races. Plan B was the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but I always thought that might be a longshot. Next plan for day 3 is a small museum in NH called The Ice House Museum. We went to a cars and coffee there last year and it was really cool. Lots of Model As, antique tools, peddle cars and more. I will contact them when they open in May. I'd be surprised if they were not interested in hosting us. That will make the itinerary: Friday: Meet in Hudson, NH noonish. Drive to cruise night in Lancaster, MA at Kimball Farm Ice cream. (about 40-50 miles) Stay at one of the hotels located at Devens, MA. Saturday: Drive to the Granite State Antique Truck Show in Deering, NH. (about 50-60 miles) Find a local hotel (TBD) Sunday: Drive around Lake Sunapee, maybe more then go to the Ice House Museum in New London, NH and spend much of the day. Everyone can go their separate ways from there or return to Hudson if they've trailered.
... and I had it printed on 2 T-shirts also so everyone will know which*****S the blue/white COE belongs to.
Trophies for Best Custom and Best Stock... In August we'll see how many show up or if I get one trophy and my buddy gets the other...
Less than 30 days til the COE COeNVOY!! It will be a real interesting surprise on how many show up. I have not publicly published the starting address since it's my house. Instead I've asked for DMs or Emails for me to send the address and the Google Maps routes. I've had no replies despite several guys giving what sounded like solid yeses when I talked to them... Who knows what will happen.... My buddy with the 48, his wife and my wife and I will have a nice weekend either way.
2 days til the start and nothing has changed except the weather forecast which HASN'T gotten better... I think it's going to be a wash out... Oh well, I tried...
Zero trucks showed up other than meeting one very nice stocker at the day 2 truck show... Oh well, I tried... Buford did have a welcoming committee at both the Friday night cruise and the Saturday truck show. 2 guys at the truck show are currently building COEs. They asked about next year. I said "uh, maybe, but not really excited after this year"... Maybe something less optimistic. 1 day with a drive?
thinking about something less ambitious for 2025. 1 day, 1 drive to a museum's antique truck show....
I may be completely out of my mind, but still thinking about a smaller event in 2025. The Owl's Head Museum in Maine has an antique truck show in July... Maybe just a drive there from the Portland Maine area....
My BIL stores a car at a big place in Portland. Put out a feeler to see if they'll take an overnight transient. Not keen on all that salt air dew getting on the truck overnight. Second choice is just bringing the cover with us.
July 20, 2025 Portland Maine to Owl's Head Museum. The Motor Club declined our overnight stay cuz it's on the weekend... Cover it is...
