I'm new to the H.A.M.B. and let me start by saying how very helpful this website had been for researching my latest project! Long story short.... I'm trying to decipher the VIN number on a ***le I received with my Ford COE truck. The ***le I have says it is a 1950 Ford Pickup with the VIN number starting with 98MTH. I've tried search all over the web to find a hint at deciphering it... but have come up empty. Any help would be appreciated?
try this, http://www.ford-trucks.com/vin-decoder/index.php?a=decode or search in the FTE. which is where I linked.
Not sure that Ford-Truck decoder will work. I don't think the early numbers were considered VINs. For instance, my 41 COE is 99T nnnnnn where nnnnnn is the serial number and 99T indicates 1.5 ton truck, 8 cyl, 134" WB. Check out: http://restoreyourford.com/1939tinfoid.shtml
Thanks for all the feedback, but unfortunatly Ford-Trucks and Restoreyourford both came up empty. I guess this is one of the many mysteries Im discovering with this truck.
Are you sure about that number? Are there also 6 numeric digits that follow it? Here's some 49/50 info that gets close.. http://www.mercurypickup.com/194951fordus.htm
Any idea where to find the vin on a 1943 and 1940Ford COE? I checked below the radiator on frame and under driver seat area on frame. There is no glove box door... Thanks
on those COE's the vin should be stamped on the front crossmember under radiator, the 39 I had it was dead center on that front crossmember.
