Have a '42 Ford COE and wonder what to use for weather stripping between the door and the jamb? There is quite a bit of space between the sides of the door and it's jamb and so need something that will crush and then rebound when the door is opened, without really slamming the door to shut it. I know there are lot of profiles for rubber stripping, but which one is the better?

That is a really loaded question. The best answer is the one that fits and works on your truck...so you might have to try several to see what fits your application. At Old Dog Street Rod Parts in St Louis, they have a rack of all kinds of weather stripping, Some solid, some hollow. They do give out samples and sell it by the foot. I like the hollow versions that look like the letter "D". It collapses when the door closes, then rebounds. It is available in several widths too. The wider versions probably collapse easier.
