Hot Rods Coil Fried?

Howdy HAMB,
Left my ignition on overnight and now car won't fire. Was firing right up before. I've read I might have fried my coil? I'm running an HEI distributor with an external coil.

It's also possible that the ignition coil is at least functional, but the magic smoke has been let out of some other component or gee-gaw.

 

I had a starter relay short internally and sent 12 volts to the coil until the battery drained, the coil also let all the oil out when the top popped off from the heat. That was an unpleasant find. Hopefully yours just fried and didnt make a mess.

 

If not the coil, then I would suspect the HEI module.

 

Offshore HEI module probably fried.

 

Thanks all...'twas the coil. It was cracked with nasty smelling stuff running out. Switched it out. Now she runs like a top again.
