I need some info RE= Coil overs on my 30' A(rear). Dimmentions are already taken care of( length),but the problem is spring rate.I've seen from 180 to 300 offered, and can only guess at this point. I will be getting on it now and then, and it won't be a canyon carver. Typical V-8/auto deal. Any info/recomendations plz! Thanks-Kid
My '32 Coupe had 200# springs. Rode good and only bottomed on bad potholes, driveways and dip, no problem.
my `28 ford full fendered tudor has 220 lb springs set on a 27 degree angle and rides and handles great. the angle the coil over shock is mounted has to factor in your choice , anlog with how heavy your car is a `32 full fendered 3 window i built had 200 lb springs and i felt they were too light. i can't remember what angle they were mounted
The length makes a difference and you didn't mention what that is. Longer springs can have a lower rate and shorter ones need a higher rate. I went through three different set of springs on the back of my A before I finally got something I could live with. Not a very cheap way to go.
As far as weight of the car goes, that i'm clueless about.I just took a mounting angle and it's 20 degrees. I guess that I just don't want it too stiff,as angle will bleed off some rate, but,I don't want to bounce either.200lb sounds good, but as never doing THIS before,it gets a little pricey to f'up.Cake and eat it too?
My 31 coupe weighs 2700 lbs. & I run 180# springs. Rides good bottoms out on bad bumps. I would not go over 250# Later, Mark
I believe you will be OK with the 200# springs. I have the same set up on my fenderless coupe with a 6" Z'ed ch***is and I never bottom out and the springs have good rebound.
