coil question

'55 Mercury that has been converted to 12V. How many volts should i be getting at the coil?

 

Points or electronic. If electronic it depends on the distributer, if it is points it should get 9V.

This thread here explains a lot. It's all about how many AMPS is going thru your points. And that is determined by the resistance of your coil plus a resister (if you have one). IF I got this right its thanks to GMC Bubba.

 

I think the 56 Ford that was 12-volt used the same coil as the 55. They just put a ballast resitor on it.
