My Coils look like this..Pic If I cut them the clamps Won"t Catch? How do you all get around this. I'm getting new springs if I have to But these like this won't work. 39 Buick, Just to tall. Jdee
Do you have a spring shop near you? Give them a call. You should be able to get new shorter ones made. Shouldn't be all that expensive
Yeah I got a price not bad, I think I might cut these and stick them in just to see about the drop I want. They fit up into the frame a few inches so I should be safe I guess. The bottom really needs clamped though... I got my top back on and just trying to get an idea of how much to lower things. Jdee
The top is back on and everything is fine. It was braced and the car has no rust at all so that helps a lot. Buick sure put a lot of lead in their tops, up to a 1/4" thick on both sides on the back area of the roof. Both sides exactly the same Jdee
Cars lookin good! That amount of lead is not uncommon. Last 35 ford coupe I did was bad. Close to 1/2"on both sides at the factory joint. It looked to be original. After I melted it out, I had to heat, bend and shrink to get it close enough to fill the top. Do you have a profile shot of your car from further back? I think it will have "the look"!
This is an old shot, Not to clear. But shows the shape of the car before the chop. and there are a few shots on my Homepage. Jdee
Chevelle's, Chevette's, Monza's all have a similar coil spring arrangement. Springs out of one those should work. You'll just have to experiment a bit to get the ride height you want. The car is lookin' good so far!
