    I don't think D B has a radial in the sizes I want----550x16 & 750x16.

Now those don't look as bad as I thought they would. They look really similar to a bias tire, at least what I can see.

Posie's has told me many times he likes the Excelsior's for his streetrods...like the Fleetliner.

It's always your choice...good luck with whatever you decide.

I don't think they make them in bias plies any more.

    Gary,
A friend of mine is using Cokers and he likes them, and the appearance fooled me....they look good.
I sent you a p.m. so you can talk to him directly.

Use the older Volkswagen stabilizer -- same thing but cheaper, NAPA has 'em.

If you like to drive your car then throw out the Bias Idea as well as race car heim joints we use to run on the street years ago. You will never get a die hard Bias Lover to change they like the look better then the ride and safety. I would never drive any of my cars with out Radials. I dont have room for a spare and I dont think NTB or Discount Tire will
be able accommodate me if I blow out a Bias on a road trip ..

The radials I'm looking at are tube type and none of the regular tire shops would be able to help with them either----I carry a donut spare and extra tubes

Oh do tell! Can I just walk in and ask for a VW steering stabilizer or is it a specific year/model thing?

All air-cooled VWs used them - from '56-'74 for sure, from what I know. I'd just ask for a '74 VW beetle stabilizer. I'm getting after one too!

I think you'll be happy. And that stabiliser is a killer deal. I think my SoCal one was $80 or something similar.

By the way, I believe an earlier comment about the Excelsior bias plys (Comp V) being no longer made is correct. In fact I was told by the Aussie dealer for Coker that they are turning out the Stahl Sport Radial from the old Comp V moulds. Obviously they modified the sidewall detail. FWIW.

I have the Excelsior Tube type radials. I had discount tire mount them to my 40 ford wheels with no problems.

I have the excelsior radials on my roadster, have about 15 thousand miles on them. I have never had tubes in them. A friend of mine runs them the same way.

If you're referencing their new "Auburn Deluxe Radial," one of their main distributors (Fritz Tire in New England) just told me they won't be coming out until late 2013. Now those look real decent...check DB's website for picks (P 22) in the catalog under the heading "Coming Soon."

Could be wrong here but I believe the tubes are used on wire wheels only, I used them on my MGB. As long as the wheel is designed for tubeless tires it should be OK without tubes. Might need to be careful mounting radials on wheels designed for bias plys only, the radial sidewall flexing stresses the wheels and can cause cracking and wheel failure. The Studebaker Drivers Club guys have a lot of stories of that happening with stock Stude wheels that have had radials mounted on them.

    NOW I"M GETTING CONFUSED!!!

    Are they tube-type or tubeless??
Hell if they are tubeless I could free up some trunk space,& carry a plug kit instead of a tire (more room for beer) ha ha:D

Sorry, didn't mean to muddy the water but you said you were looking at tube-type tires and my experience has been that radials are manufactured as tubeless tires and a tube is only used when the radial tire is mounted on a wire wheel. And OBTW, the tube that is used is supposed to be for a radial tire app. So yes it looks like you can fill the trunk with beer! I used to carry a spare but now just a small electric compressor and a couple cans of fix a flat instead to save some room.

I have a set of the Coker Cl***ics, simply because they weren't making the Excelsiors yet when I got mine. I love to log a lot of fast highway miles and they've been up to the task between Seattle to California to Bonneville and all over in between.
