I wouldn't spin shit. You don't know if the cylinder walls are cracked or pushed a chunk into the chamber and there's a lot of risk moving things. Sounds like it self-drained the water, not much more you can do other than drain the milky oil. Aluminum pistons won't rust.

Honestly you're pretty lucky because with that engine it's $400 to replace the block and gasket set. I'd be tempted to throw everything across, right down to rings and bearings. good luck

  5. Just a tip from the great white north. A heater even a small ceramic heater but ideally a construction heater left in the garage and set on low setting will completly prevent this type of thing . I leave one on all the time. Normally it doesnt run but i can hear it this morning as it is -3F here. It is my back up in case I forget although I drain my race engines in the winter although I used to run antifreeze in them all until the track banned it and started checking (of course it never occurred to them that the 125 street cars all run antifreeze as do the track trucks. ) Cost of running it is a few cents a day. ceramics areas cheap as $10 and are 110V while the construction heaters (aka Milk house heaters) run 220 v and run between $59 and $79. I change their plug to a welders plug and leave it plugged in unless I am using the arc welder. It will keep it above freezing. Also freezing is not good for paints and water based cleaning fluids etc so it does double duty protecting what i have bought. I leave it on the lowest setting providing heat.

I have a 350 that cracked in the valley.
The machinist hot tanked the motor and bored it before he saw/found the crack.

    Hope yours turns out better.

I hope we can all learn a lesson here from this guy's experience, and thanks for sharing it with us. I usually put petcocks in where the drains are on the block whenever I build an engine, and wire them so they cannot spin open unless I want them to. That way if you need to drain anything, it's quick and easy.

I agree everyone should learn to check all fluids including the radiator when buying a vehicle especially from a southern state. I'm surprised by the amount of people that don't check for antifreeze in radiators.

I supposed as northerners just assume there is antifreeze and the southerners never give it a thought.

I learned years ago when I used to bring cars back from Fl. to Wi. years ago. It amazes me that very few had any coolants in them and the ones that did had very little. Not enough for Wi.

I also check my antifreeze every year right before winter in all my daily drivers or any vehicle or equipment that was used that year.
