While my project seems to be moving at the speed of geologic time, I'd welcome your pictures, sources of supply, recommendations and comments on collapsible steering columns. Thanks
Good subject. Check out Flaming River. I saw their new collapsible column at SEMA. There are also steering shafts that slide over each other. Sorry that's all I have.
required on 1968 and newer cars per federal law..... Recommendations would kind of depend on what your project is.
If you are talking about a "telescoping" wheel The 76/79 Cad Sevilles had a decent one but it has the shifter and key in the column. Collapsible, as in it doesn't have the solid shaft to go through your chest in a crash, all 68 and later American cars should have that. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
The best way I found this from my neighbor who builds prostock race cars for a living, Is to get a post '68-mid 70's Commercial Van or Truck, they are light and simple since the key is usually on the dash and they are usually sticks. They sit up right in those trucks so they are shorter than cars and easy to use on a older small car like what you will probably be using it on. And the best part of all they are CHEAP! I cant afford flaming river. I have a 1973 Econoline column waiting for the 37 truck and the good thing is it was almost free 15 bucks. factory steering wheel ****s on it tho. Just my 2cents hope it helps.
