Let's see your rarest or your favorite plate. And we don't want to see your upper or lower plate either. I have about 50, many pairs one number off to the other. Couple cool one's, war plates 1942-43, they are either soybean or card board impregnated in some kind of coating. Mine go back to the 30s
I liked this one because I figured anybody with a BBC in a Deuce would love to use it...unfortunately NJ doesn't permit YOM plates. The same guy had the V8455 pair for the Buick fans. The nice thing is that since you can't run them, the price has remained reasonable. I still need a 32 Louisiana single to complete my set.
At one time I had over 3000 (yeah, I know.....) plates and sold them for years through an ad in Hemmings. With the advent of Ebay and everybody & their brothers selling plates, I sold the majority of mine to a dealer that was hungrier than I was. I now have only the core of my collection, which probably numbers about 300 plates, all of which are New York State plates. I collect all the different varieties (passenger, commercial, trailer, bue, etc) plates and try to get one for every year they were issued. The oldest ones I have are "pre-states" issued around 1906. My favorite? - I like 'em all. The rarest ones I have are probably a matched pair of 1913 commercial plates in excellent original condition. I have almost all the plates hanging on the walls in my shop, along with other automobilia I've collected over the years. If you want to get serious and learn all about the hobby, check out the Automobilia License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA) website. I think it's ALPCA.org, but you might want to do a Google to make sure. Here's a couple of pics of my Dealer plates with Dealer frames and an ultra-rare pair of 1912 cardboard Dealer plates ("M" prefix stands for "Manufacturer), which I used to own, but sold in a moment of weakness and still regret doing. I have over 3000! Some from almost every state and Canada. Ranging from 1910 to mid 80's. Don't have any pics right now. I never have time to mess with them. I had big plans for them, just no time! I should probably get rid of them.
I have plates from all over the world and have them all over the house. Some are even useful. They went all the way around my kitchen, each state in alaphbetical order, each one given to me by a HAMB pal that lives in that state. Most are vintage Above my old kitchen window They are all down right now as I gutted my kitchen a couple of months ago and am redoing it.

I srarted collecting 1932 state tags a few years ago,,,don't have many because they are too expensive! HRP
I only have a few right now, I didn't start collecting them till recently. My oldest is a 1917 Manitoba plate.
I have several hundred with the oldest being a 1922 New York plate.I had a plate that said "boat" but don,t know if it meant boat trailer. That plate was white on red from Michigan and was the size of a bicycle plate.
Don't have photos at work, but I have plates from every state, most Canadian provinces and a few foreign countries. I try no to buy plates unless I am in that state or country. My favorites are the older plates that have a raised section with the state motto embossed into it, the plate I picked up and lugged through India and my first plate-a 1971 polar bear shaped NWT plate that I picked up in Ft. Smith,Northwest Territories in '73. I am trying to catch up with a Nunavut plate that's also a polar bear, but so far have only found touristy "0000" ones or super-bucked ones on E-bay.
just picked up a 1931 Kentucky plate. A good friend of mine was building his dream car( 1931 Chevy coupe), but never got to finish it. He died of cancer last year. His wife sold the car, for $16,000. It was a roller big block chevy powered, fire breathing machine. I bought his tag from her. I'm helping her sell some of his tools now in the classified section.
I picked up a nice pair of 1949 Oregon plates for cheap. thought I might start a collection of all the 49 plates since I likes the 49 Chevrolets. I started "collecting" pairs of black/yellow 63-69 California plates when I heard they were going to be available for use with the "year of manufacture" license plate program. ended up with 11 pairs, of which 5 were DMV clear for use.
Nice plates fellas! Have a few I'll post up... Eh, Boyd Who....those shelves look like headaches waiting to happen....at least screw them to the brackets....I'd hate to hear abouttheat circular saw fell off and left a lasting impression in the beautiful red paintjob. I'm just saying..
I'm not actively collecting, but here are four that I have. The two 53's and the 55 I found in an old dump out in the woods. The 37 was given to me. Someday I hope to restore them.
I've been hearing rumors that Oregon is going to start issuing once again "Pacific Wonderland" plates in the original yellow on blue colors. Anyone can verify this?

Not a collector, but cleaning out my grandpa's garage came across a box of old license plates (depression era people, never got rid of anything). He had plates personalized with his initials from 1950 through 1974. I couldn't get rid of them either, so they're hanging in my garage.
Personalized tags in 1950??? No shit? That is by FAR, the oldest I've ever heard of! What a cool way to remember your grandpa, too. Here are a few of my favorites from my collection. The Cuba tag is a rarity in the US! The Belgium tag is a 1918 porcelain tag for the rear of the car, hence the stamp on it. Rears are much more difficult to find than fronts, which have no Belguim stamp on them. A Belgian friend gave this to me before my wife and I moved back to the US from Germany. It is, by far, the rarest plate I own. Some others I've picked up along the way are the Saudi and Bahrain tags, several tags from Oz, Panama, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Germany, Canada, and several US military tags.
Don't worry...those shelves are in fact screwed to the brackets. I feel the same way about shop "accidents". I appreciate the concern, though.
we have some iowa plates from the teens I need to get some pics and get them out of the box and on a wall
Here's a nice old timer I picked up many years ago for a T-Bucket I was going to build. Have a few old ('34 and '39) Oklahoma plates but that's about the extent of the collection.
Might be a good place to ask..... Anyone have a PAIR of Utah 1931 plates they want to sell? I need a pair for my pickup.... PM me if so... BTW... COOL PLATES!!!!
Heres some of mine i got the custom cali plate of a 59 Apache pickupbox trailer. and the G plate 8 bucks at a swap meet and the clergy one was just to cool to pass up I'm sure it will get some looks at the car shows
Typical Oregon, they have to bugger up the original design. Looks OK but not as good as the originals.
