my 55 chevy got bumped in the back and we are trying to find the paint to match it. anyone know of a good place to get the paint matched up good near central KY? IT has always been garaged so the paint is in good shape but is about 10 yrs old. we scanned the dash about 12 yrs ago to get the body color. now the ppg camera(it is a different updated one) won't give us a good match. any ideas or info would be appreciated.

If you are the one who scanned the dash and also the one who had the color mixed and either painted the car or had it painted, It seems reasonable to me that you should have the color formula information from back then.

IT WOULD SEEM RESONABLE. except it wasn't my car then. it has changed hands a few times since it was painted . no old cans or labels were saved.

That's too bad, you may be faced with finding a color that is close and repainting the whole car.

    Good luck with your search.

A good paint store should be able to match it. Have been told they have a system where they photograph the existing paint and then use a computer to match - but it looks like you've already gone that route.

Forget about a paint store matching anything. Not long ago I ordered the correct paint code and it was no where near aas what is on the car. It took about an hour of tinting to get it right. A good painter should be able to tint it and get it to match.

"Matching" paint is a relative term. Depending on the color you may have to/get to blend adjacent panels to achieve a proper repair.

  8. Ordering a paint code of a factory colour is meaningless unless you know what variance of that colour you are mixing to. Some colours can have up to a dozen different shades from the factory.
