    Howdy, HAMB'ers!
I'd like to consult all the Columbia 2-Spd. Axle gurus here on this forum, to help me identify my "rear".:D

    Brass tag says: F-39-100A-30
    No. 8703
    Columbia Axle Co.
There are some patent #'s too, that are hard to read. I know that the rearend has mechanical brakes. I think it's out of a pre '39 Linclon.
I'm interested in running it under my '31 'A' Coupe. Are they costly to rebuild, set up, etc.? I've got complete '39, '40, & '46 'Banjo' rearends I could use to retrofit for juice brakes, etc.
Any help, info, and advice will be mucho appreciated!

Shoot a pic of the center section from a side and look for forging numbers on the spring mounts--that will help place it.

Columbia 2 sp rears are so sick. If I ever saw one in real life I would stare alot and ask many questions. Would be Cool on the side of a v8 quick change with some crazy old wide 5 setup. That would make a nice custom built work of axle art. Check out the new issue of Ol' School Rodz. There is a tech article on setting up a Columbia 2 sp rear.

    the f 39 means its a ford for 1939.
if it was a lincoln it would have a lz or m for merc.
also for the years 1938 and 39 for the lincoln, there was a output gear next to the backing plate for the speedo drive. If you have any further or technical questions my new friend John Connelly from native Cali. has set up shop and has all your columbia needs...as well as mine at Columbia two speed parts inc. 951-719-4077

  5. bullet proofing is about 650 in labor plus needed parts from a columbia rebuild shop

So it's a Ford unit on a Lincoln hypoid center, from the pics and tag...interesting mix.
