Been here in Columbia SC for the past 4 years, and not finding too many people to hang with that have the same interests in cars that I do. I've seen a clean 50's Pontiac cruisin through town and was going to try to talk to the guy next time I saw him but haven't yet. I only live here because I'm stationed here in the Air Force. Im originally from N.C. and would much rather be there closer to my friends but at least im close. So anyways, looking to see what HAMBers are in or relatively close to Columbia SC. It would be nice to have someone to cruise some backroads with once in a while! Either that or all my friends from Charlotte/Concord/Winston-salem area of N.C. need to come visit!! haha Columbia is doing quite a bit of good historical renovating down town on main street and it would be fun to get a little cruise in to ride around town and maybe all park on main st and just hang out and enjoy each others automobiles. They have really cleaned up the down town area and keeping the historical look going. I know in my home town of Wilkesboro NC they have a cruise in on main street every month. So anyone on here wanting to set up a meet up/cruise in some time around the down town Columbia area let me know.
Darn you lived in NC and moved to SC. Oh well guess I'll go cruise alone......I'm sure there's some hot rodders down in SC that like to cruise and hang.
The Chevy Club has a fairly nice cruise in @ the Fat Boys parking lot ( US # 1 in West Columbia SC ... in between I-26 and 1-20 ) on the second Saturday night of the month. Usually 150 vechicles or more. A always see a couple of HAMB members there. Their cruise is NOT as good as the one Lenoir NC ( HRP and his wife ... myself and a passenger ) were at the last cruise in @ Lenior. Drop by the cruise in @ Fat Boys ... meet a few folks. Folks are always upcoming dropping cruise night/car show flyers in the vechicles. There is a plenty good cruise in @ Anderson SC also. It is @ the McDonalds ( I-85 exit 27 @ Hwy 81 ). It is next Saturday. My wife and I go there 3 or 3 times a season. Usually see a few HAMB folks there also.
Yeah, been to the cruise in at fat boys a few times... pretty cool little get together, just thought i'd reach out on here and see what else there is. I think a get together on main street would be fun. Thanks though!
My Dad lives in Manning...moved there from NJ where I live but he sold his F100...he is always looking for cars down there and never sees many. His neighbor has a 32 pick up Street Rod, not really HAMB style but not much going on down there....but what do I know, I live 13 hours away!
Well you got that right, not much going on here. You go an hour or two north or south and you got stuff going on and great places to see good live music. I think columbia is just here for people to stop for gas between charlotte NC and charleston SC haha.
Well a few of us hambers down in charleston have lunch every saturday, I dont go every weekend, but there is always about ten or fifteen people there.
Most of the cruise ins on a main street happens in a SMALL town. They are generally supported and sometimes organized by the downtown merchants organization. They want folks to come down town and spend money $$$. They have the co-operation of the local police. Columbia SC is not a small town. Most of the businesses are big business or franchise type places. If you want a cruise in down town, you need to get the business faction behind it. As for the Charleston lunch, I go down there 2 or 3 times a year and eat with them. I lived in Charleston almost 40 years ago, so I know a lot of the local rodders types there. You might find this interesting. My wife and I go there 2 or 3 times a year http://www.cruisincarolinamagazine.com/content/mcdonalds-cruise-anderson-sc-2011-4
Very true! I'd really like to get something going on here. The new Mast General Store just opened up downtown. I bet they would back it... Thanks for all the info guys!
