Column shift in an A chassis?

I have a 40 column, box, and trans that I'm thinking of putting under my future rod project and was wondering if there's enough room between the rails for old ford pedals, and the column shift linkage on a chassis for an A.

    What about with 32 rails?

Either 28-29 or 30-31 would be good to know for reference?

    Thanks [IMG]

There's a good pic of '32 pedals with side shift in Klazurfer's interesting post so you can visualize what you're up against.. This requires narrowing the pedal box, I believe, and of course the A is even narrower (and I think shorter too) in here. It will definitely be tough, but I have seen cars that have managed it. Be aware that there are lots of possible tricks with early Ford column shift--over or under column. even on other side of column.

Thanks Bruce, That post was kinda the inspiration for this one...

Hassels, I can deal with, That's what hot-rodding's about right? I just want to find out if it's possible...

The wrinkle to all this is that I have a '70's 3spd top-loader that I can use but for some reason, it just bugs me that it's not from the right era. Also it's in perfect shape and I've had to do some heavy cleaning etc to get the 40 box working, and I'd like to only use parts that my hands improved in some way. I'm a nut? [IMG]

What do you think about the same column-shift setup in a 32 frame? Should be room there right? What about if it's pinched for a 28-29 cowl?

    Any other input? [IMG]

The traditional way in a '32, from California Bill's manual, is to cut the '32 pedal bracket, narrow it an inch, then face the inch off of the inside pivot bosses of the pedals. Probably Klazurfer did this?? I think pinching would work with this.

    OK I'm a yutz...

I was thinking of a different post. I just saw Klaz's.

That's really tight! I guess with some judicious bending of shift arms and linkage, anything is possible.

Hi [IMG] I hope this pic might be of help . As Bruce said , the pedal bracket is narrowed about 1" , and the outside of the pedals have been milled down 1/2" each ( to make room for the anti-shatter-rod ). Both pedals have been heated & reshaped , and I also had to reshape the anti-shatter-rod to give the brake pedal a free movment . I am not too familiar with model A`s , but I guess it will work out too .
( The set-up aint quite finished in the pic , as the pedal-shaft has later been cut down on the right side, and the lock-pin have been relocated to the left side )
