    Gents,

I am considering putting a 40 sideshift gearbox in my 31 roadster when I drop in the flathead.
Pardon me in advance if this has been covered but what column is best for this?
I have an F-1 unit with out the column shift that I had planned on using with my topshift ****** and a 46 or 47 car steering column with a shifter I ended up with years ago...it doen't look like the 46-47 unit will work with out some big work.

should I look for an f-1 with the column shift or...?

    Thanks,

    Bakersfield Boy

  4. I remember when some of the hoodlums in my neighborhood would change the column shifts to the left hand side of the column. This was in old Fords. This was a long time ago but I think it was for a faster shift into second gear. I think they pulled the lever to shift into second gear.
